This book is loaded with great explanations of standards. The concepts taught are aligned to 2nd grade Language Arts standards. They provide ample practice for each standard. The answer in the backnis helpful to parents just in case they are not sure of the answer. I have become such a fan of the Spectrum workbooks ever since I was first introduced to them a few years ago. I absolutely love that the language arts books focus on mastery skills such as learning grammar, sentence building, punctuation, capitalization, and parts of speech. The book is divided into four sections where it first focuses on the grammar aspect, then the mechanics, followed by usage. The final section offers skills on writing, which is fantastic, because it takes everything else that was taught beforehand and allows students to put what they've learned to good use. This isn't just an activity book, but it actually offers simple lessons before the activities. While they are short, the lessons are very clear and concise, which actually makes them easy for my son to understand without a lot of extra explanation from me. Plus they are fun, so they keep him interested. The book offers comprehensive coverage of all language arts skills that are typically covered in second grade, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, punctuation, tenses, synonyms/antonyms, sentence building, and so much more! My son will be taking the standardized test for the first time this school year, and this workbook has already proven to be a handy resource to help him prepare for it. I have this book for a couple of different grade levels because I teach learning support/special ed and it's been great for my students! The wide variety of skills covered allows me to customize assignments for my students based on their individual needs. Love this book!

Love all the Spectrum books we have used. Very thoughtful and complete in skills explored & core essentials covered. Encourages child to continue to cultivate their language, english & reading skills beyond the page!
