These are the servos that came with my Eflite Commander. One was bad out of the box and since then 3 more have gone bad. The elevator and rudder servos I replaced with bigger 17g servos since there was room. Then an aileron servo went and I bought the replacement servo from Horizon. After the second aileron servo went I have had it with these servos and put a different one in. In all the bad servos, it was just the tiny gear at the top that went bad. Horizon does not sell gear sets for this servo and told me they only offer the replacement servos. Now, I will admit to some hard landings but no more than my other planes. Another club member has had similar problems with his Commander so I feel there is a problem with the quality control for these servos.
I have an E-flite Tundra and have had two of these servos fail at different times. Fortunately I did not crash the plane. I bought replacements of the same part number, but I fear that they will fail also, since I have read many reviews on these servos that are bad. Spektrum should provide upgraded replacements.
I love my Commander but the servo's to are a real pain. I have replaced 7 of these servo's, The rudder servo twice. I sure wish these servos had metal gears. Horizon Hobby provided 2 but I paid for 6. I did not complain but I really should have as HH would probably help me out a bit.

These are not worth your time and money to use. Don't understand why they are even used in new product. The manual for the Commander mPd call for the wrong servo to use as a replacement when one goes bad. It should call out the A330R and not the A330. The same is true with the servos in the TImber's. If you read the reviews on the Commander and also the Timber you will soon get the same opinion as I have. Everyone I've read says they are bad. The other problem is they are used in the Wings of the Commander and you can't even replace them without some major surgery on the wing to fish the wire. The bracket that holds the servos in place is glued in and the hole in the bracket isn't large enough for the end plug of the servo wire to pass through. I don't recommend these to any of my friends. I have at least 6 plus in inventory to get rid of cheep.
The aleron servos that come with the Aire-Batix do not last long. I had my first crash due to the left wing servo failing for no reason after takeoff. I replaced both aleron servos with two HRC35055S servos with metal gears purchased from Horizon. They fit perfectly. I cut the long servo wires off of the original servos that run through the wing and cut the plugs off of the new servos and connected the wires to the new servos and soldered them and used heat shrink tubing over the soldered connections. I had to reverse the servos using my transmitter. No problems after several flights.
I never read the reviews on the servo’s until now. I finally tried my maiden flight yesterday. After just about a minute, I lost control and it crashed badly. It made it fly nose down and couldn’t get it to straighten out, so now I have to replace the fuselage and other parts and the parts are back ordered. But, after reading these reviews, I don’t know if it is worth it. If I can’t buy better servo’s, I don’t know if I want to spend the money on it. Pretty bad a plane costing $250 and bad parts from the get go having problems and making the plane to crash.
I purchased a Commander using these servos and soon had it totaled due to a bad elevator servo(stripped top gear). I could have repaired the plane but decided to just buy a second one and use the first for spare parts. :-) Well, I had 3 more servos fail- a locked up aileron servo causing a crash which snapped the fuselage in half and two rudder servos went bad(stripped top gear). One of these rudder servos happened just with the plane sitting on the floor in the house. I also had an elevator servo go bad while testing in the house. I finally gave up and replaced all servos with Tower Hobby SG92R servos. It did require using 6" extensions for the aileron servos and enlarging the lead holes in the wings but well worth it- I haven't had a single crash or problem since. BTW, Horizon did offer to let me send my first Commander in for evaluation but shipping would have been so HIGH I just bought a new plane. The Commander is a decent easy to fly plane BTW. I recommend avoiding any planes using the SPMSA330R or SPMSA330 servos or replacing them before flying. Just my 2 cents. :-) Craig
I own a total of 6 E-Flite planes with these junk servos in them, and as you can see from the other reviews they are junk, I have had these fail on three of my first E-Flite warbirds that I purchased, resulting in a total loss of two of them, HH did offer two give me a substantial credit on them, but on my other three planes, I decided to completely replace all of the servos before it happened again, I have taken apart over six of these servos that failed and two that didn’t, the six that failed, were literally ground almost to a powder, and the other two that I took apart, the teeth on the plastic gears were so small where they meet the other gears, that you can clearly see why they would fail, and what’s worse is that, because of the AS3X system, the servos are constantly moving, I replaced mine with 12 Gram all metal gear EMax servos, and have over 84 flights on my P-47 BNF with no failures, and their cheaper, the thing I don’t understand why HH keeps using these on their planes, despite the bad reviews and constant problems, don’t get me wrong HH has in my opinion the best customer service in the industry, but sending me another junk servo is not solving my problem!!
I have a Cirrus SR-22T. The nose gear rudder failed. I inherited another SR-22T. I did the second nose gear rudder servo replacement. Then for no apparent reason, an aileron servo failed. I used the same part because it fits, but going forward, I'll modify the space and upgrade. These servos are cheap. Not what I expect in an e-flite airplane.
