So far I love it. So much easier to use than what I had before! I love the universal plates that come with. It makes it very easy to use with die cuts. I haven't tried using the embossing yet.
At fourteen months of age, the bearings came apart inside the machine. Normal usage, maybe a few times a week. Email the company, no replacement parts available. Through Facebook, 'we can send you a new handle'. If they had actually read the concern, the handle was not the problem. No help, whatsoever, from the company. A couple hundred dollars spent and now a useless pile of plastic and loose needle bearings. Loved the machine until it failed. Now, after this experience, do you think we'll buy another one from Spellbinders? You would think that if they really stood behind their product, maybe they would help the consumer in some way. Nope, just like a used car dealer, once they see your tail lights, they're done with you.
I have other machines (both electric and manual). I purchased this because of it's larger size and universal plates. I fine it less cumbersome to use than an electric machine, when I need to cut quickly (or just a few dies) It's more portable and can accommodate larger cutting dies/letterpress, etc
I am so excited about my new machine. It makes cutting large rectangle dies easier to cut by placing them at an angle. Being able to use 8.5 x 11 paper without cutting it into small pieces is a great feature as well. I often use my smaller cutting plates to save the larger ones. I like that I can use larger dies and embossing folders without having to do them in 2 steps.
I have always used a manual die cutting machine and it's always been one from Spellbinders. I don't see much difference in this machine from my original Platinum except for the color and the base plates. It is and has always been a fabulous machine. I wanted the new color design.
I am new to the paper crafting game, so I was concerned when quite a number of people commented that the Platinum was big and heavy. I have not seen the Platinum 6 in person, but in my opinion, this is the PERFECT SIZE for my multi-media paper crafting. When open, the cutting bed is just the right size and it folds up to sit smartly on the corner of my cutting space next to my Cricut Maker. Looking forward to purchasing many more 3D folders, jazzing up the outside with laser-printed design decals and growing into my Platinum machine!
It’s just okay. I don’t feel there is anything special about it compared to others. It cuts dies. I noticed that the plates warp really easily DESPITE turning them as suggested. I purchased it for my larger dies. I still love my little green machine and prefer using that, the plates are still the original on that one.
The top handle has to be pried up in order to use it. It is very hard to run dies thru the machine and impossible to run some thicker dies thru. Embossing folders are almost a total fail no matter what combo of plates I use. I have a first gen Big Shot that I keep reverting back to.
I bought this a replacement for my original Platinum that I’ve had and used heavily since Spellbinders first released it. I finally broke my first one and I am sure that happened because I abused it. I never doubted that my replacement would also be a Platinum. I love this machine.
I purchased 3 Spellbinder machines: Platinum 6, new & improved Platinum, and Glimmer Hot Foil System. I hesitated buying them since I had never used hot foil or die cuts. I am so glad I ordered them. I LOVE them all. The machines are very sturdy and heavy, very well made. When you open then box all the items needed to get started are included. They were shipped so quickly. If you do not have any of these machines please consider purchasing them.
