Spellbound Ellian & Gryphon Riding Pack, includes Deluxe Action Figure with Flapping Wings

I knew when I seen this playset I had to have it. Everything about it was just awesome! As a doll photographer as a hobby I knew the animals could be used as props for other small dolls however it's just an awesome set. I looked at a couple of other major retailers and they didn't even have this set. The doll figure that comes with the set is small with limited articulation however she does not need it she's all that just the way she is. The larger animals wings actually flap if you pretend flying him and the smaller animal is just too darn cute. The seating apparatus actually can be removed if you want a 6 inch figure to mount him. I absolutely recommend this set for all doll lovers of all ages.

It is a lovely set. The first thing I want to say about it is that it seems very small when you look at the dimensions online. However, I compared it with some other toys of mine and it is an ideal size. The figurine of Ellian is cute, and the arms and legs move back and forth. It is almost 3.5 inches tall. The box and the description did not tell me much about the features of this toy, but the cats are wonderful. The little kitten is about 2ish inches tall. It is extremely cute. Its wings and the tufts on its ears have paint on them making them look very nice. Now onto the main attraction of this set: the large gryphon cat. For dimensions this cat is at the tips of its ears almost 3.5 inches tall. It's about 4ish inches long without the attachable tail and around 6.5 with. Its wingspan is about a foot from the tip of one to the tip of the other. The wings are a rubber like material (they may be rubber, I don't know). When the head is press, providing the gryphon is on solid ground, the wings will go forward. You can also do this with your hands in midair. The wing joints twist forward and can flap up and down. When you press the legs quickly the wings look like they are flapping, not just twisting forward. If you move it up and down the wings will flap because the joints are not very stiff. I love that about it. The back legs do not really move. The attachable tail fell out very easily when I first put it on only to realize that I hadn't pressed it in enough. You have to hear a click. It might feel like you are pressing a little too hard, but you have to hear the click. The saddle is nice. You have to press down on Ellian to get her into the saddle, but it looks really cute. I also found that you can use other dolls of the same size with movable legs in the saddle just fine. The kitten's tail will also sit in the saddle, but it is smaller and won't stay. The seat of the saddle itself will not come off, but the rubber harness part will. It is hard to take off if you don't know what you're doing and the reason for this is that there are 2 very easy latches you use to take it off. They are the same color as the rest of the harness so unless you know they are there you can't take the harness off. Once you unlatch the harness it is really easy to get off. It does have to slide over one of the wings, but it does not harm it. The head also turns. The last thing I want to say is that I gave this toy 5 stars on everything except for value and this is not because I didn't like it this is because I think it is a little bit ridiculous for it to be $24. I love it very much though. I would encourage people who liked the movie or anyone that just loves mythical creatures to buy it. (Reviewed by daughter: Keylee)
