SportRack by Thule SR7011 Horizon Roof-Mount (11 cubic feet) Cargo Box, Black

This cargo box mounted easily to my round bar rack and would easily mount to any shape rack. The quick connect U-bolt mounting latches worked perfectly and hold the box securely. The hinged top cover and key-lock mechanism work smoothly. I mounted the box well toward the passenger side and in the fully forward position to leave room for a couple of kayaks and to provide clearance for the car's open hatchback. The length of the SportRack Horizon 11 cu ft cargo box (Model# SR7011) has ample length for carrying one-piece paddles. I've already recommended it to friends.

Easy to install on roof. Held quite a bit of luggage. Stayed in place for 12 hour ride to Outer Banks. Would definitely recommend this product!

I was a little hesitant because this seemed to be a budget brand of cargo carrier but it's really similar in quality to Thule and Yakima. I'm very happy with the purchase.

In my case needed to open nee holes to fit in my 6 seats' hyundai sata fe 2017 but was not big deal. I used it for a trip so far and dont have any complain.

I'm pretty happy, overall, with the cargo box. It's pretty slick looking and it strikes a good balance between being robust enough (with a decent locking mechanism) without being excessively over built and heavy. I think it's going to work out very well. And we got a killer deal at Walmart. Some places had it listed for over $400. We used to borrow our neighbor's square box for years, but it put a hurtin' on the fuel mileage AND it couldn't haul our skis. This box is WAY more aerodynamic for those family vacations AND will do double duty in winter for those ski trips. It's a nice looking box, too, if that matters. The only reason that I didn't give it a 5 star rating is that it's not super easy to mount. The U-bolts that go around the roof rack and up through the box are difficult to position, and I finally wedged a rag between the roof of the car and the bottom of the U-bolt to hold it in place until I secured everything up inside the box. Definitely easier the second time once you know the challenges. Once secured, it's rock solid. The hinges and everything look robust. I am happy with the purchase, especially for the killer price. And I'm pretty picky. Some of the big name brand boxes are over $900.

I was so excited when I received my new rooftop cargo carrier! This is my first experience with a cargo carrier. Problem I was trying to solve: I have a 2014 Subaru Outback. We needed more space in the car when traveling, but I also had to make room for a kayak and 3 bikes. Ideally I wanted to use the factory crossbars on the roof that are approx 36” wide. So I really wanted to put the kayak and cargo carrier on roof and bikes on a hitch on the back. Research: On my way to work I spotted an old TH Cascade box on a large SUV that seemed to be exactly what I wanted (narrow shape). I quickly learned that that model was discontinued. Then through internet searchers I stumbled upon the Sportrack Horizon 11 cubic feet which seemed to be the EXACT dimensions and what I thought would work well on my vehicle, narrow, short enough to fit in the garage, etc. I called the Y and TH companies and they don't make anything under 24” wide, etc. I was on the fence about buying a lesser brand, but after lots of research I threw caution to the wind and gave Sportrack a try. By the way, I read that a few years back the big TH company bought out Sportrack and the Horizon 11 is patterned after the TH Cascade lol. Shipping: I normally order things from the big A on-line company, I don't like paying for sh & h, wanted the product to come to my door, but since they were quoting 3-4 weeks delivery, I found the same item at Walmart, same price, but paid tax and had to pick up at store. Walmart quoted 2 weeks delivery but the box came in just 7 days!!! The cargo carrier was in one piece inside the box, so you can imagine how large the box was, so I strapped it onto my roof with my crossbars and got it home safely. Installation: I loved that the box itself was fully assembled. I read the instructions prior to install, highlighted some things that I thought might be problematic or more thought. I think doing this helped me navigate the install better. I should point out that I'm a 40-something female who is pretty handy when it comes to these types of things. So before my husband and daughter woke up one weekday morning (before work lol) I was able to install the box all by myself. The box weighs about 30 lbs, so while it's very long, it's not very heavy (my 3 year old is 40+ lbs, so I'm used to carrying more weight). My Outback, while an SUV, isn't as tall as other SUVs out there, so I was able to carefully lift the box and slide it onto the crossbars with little concern (me being 5'11” probably helped too). The first issue I had was that if I stuck with the factory holes of the box, I would not be able to open the hatchback completely (something that was always a possibility when I ordered the product but until I got the box in person would I know if that were the case or not). Using the furthest factory holes I can only open the hatch ½ way. Not ideal. So I thought awhile about getting my drill out and punching a few holes approx 7” further to the back (that's what I measured and marked would allow me to open hatch completely, but then I didn't want to compromise the cargo box (I not a wiz at physics, would I find out going 80 mph that I really messed things up by customizing the box to my car?)). So I decided to stick with the factory holes and grin and bear it. The box fits nice and snug on the factory crossbars. I cut some pieces of pool noodle foam length-wise to act as shims for getting a tight fit when clamping down the U bolts. That worked really well since I didn't have helping hands at the time. I found that when installing the box it was nice to have a step stool (sometimes it's hard to balance standing on the back tire). Instructions were fairly simple, no major issues. It took me 60 minutes to install my first time, which included worrying about the hatch issue and figuring out what to use as shims. Now that I've installed it, worked out the kinks, I would assume I could install the box in less than 20 minutes next time. I have about 2" clearance to get into our garage, so that worked out well. I can't open the box in the garage, but I can at least park it in the garage. If I had a taller SUV, that wouldn't be possible. Travel: Drove it around town a few days empty before a trip in suburb driving (300 miles, including lots of 60-80 mph highway). Barely noticed it was on the car from the noise inside. I looked through my sun roof window so that I could notice it getting loose or something. No issues at all. Then took our first trip with the cargo carrier this weekend (500 miles round trip). A little wind, but no rain, so haven't tested bad conditions. I loaded the carrier up with a large umbrella stroller, lots of bedding and blankets, cot, etc. Because I didn't know if the cargo carrier might leak if it rained, I put everything in large clear plastic bags as a precaution. I probably put about 50 – 70 lbs of stuff in the carrier. Did lots of 70 – 80 mph driving. I loved driving with the cargo carrier on the roof! Cons: It's too long for me to open the hatch completely with the factory holes, so my work around is that I loaded and unloaded our trunk items through the second row seating (put the seat back down and reached into the trunk. It's not ideal, but it's a good work around since I couldn't find any other cargo carriers that were shorter and still narrower than 24”. Caveat: I haven't tried to put the kayak on the rack yet. I plan on ordering the sticks which take up about 5” width. I believe I'll need about 13”-15” width for the kayak, so it's going to be tight, but I think it will work. I really don't want to purchase wider crossbars.

After much research, and considering more expensive products (Yakima and Thule), I purchased this product. Sportrack appears to be the budget brand of Thule. Thus far I am very pleased with this product. Installation was fairly straightforward (did it by myself, two people would be even easier). Really make sure the "Easy Snap"'s are fully open before attempting to insert the U-Bolts. By default, at least mine, the "Easy Snap"s open just slightly, which will lead you to believe they are fully open. They open even more to allow the threaded portion of the U-bolt to pass through. If you don't open/twist the "Easy Snap"s all the way and attempt to force the U-bolts in you will strip the black plastic threads. The Sportrack Installation Manual could be more explicit in this detail. I would say the "Easy Snap"s certainly function well enough but are not as elegant/efficient as the more expensive brands like Yakima and Thule with respect to mounting to the crossbars. In other words, if you plan to take this on and off a lot, the claw type mounting feature offered in those brands is probably the way to go. That said, the roof box looks great and is relatively quiet at highway speeds. The pull-down handle is a nice feature, especially when installed on a tall vehicle. One thing to note, at the time of purchase, the SR0711 (this product) is not currently listed in the Sportrack fit guide (Doh!). All said, happy with product.

Great roof box. The thin profile allows me to mount my kayak at the same time. My only criticism would be that it will only open from the passenger side. But that is being picky. This box is sturdy, locks tight, and mounts solidly to the roof rack. A great value for the price.

Cargo box itself is strong and lightweight but dont waste your money on this clearanced item. You get what you pay for here. Hardware and process of attaching box to roof rails is cumbersome and time consuming, not to mention you have to take care not to scratch your roof. Locking mechanism is exposed inside so cargo easily blocks it but it doesn't matter since after one trip, lock has jammed with key stuck in it, rendering it useless. Now requires bungees to hold the lid shut. On the inside, bottom of box has high ridges as well as hardware knobs that stick up making it impossible to shove heavier cargo in place.
