Stanley made the chisels out of a single piece of steel that runs through the handle to the striking cap, so the chisels are very strong. The black rubber covering on the handle provides a comfortable and secure grip. The precision ground cutting edge is ultra sharp, making shaving smooth and clean.
These chisels are probably the single best choice for regular carpentry, rough carpentry, framing and general construction. As close to indestructible as any I've seen. Although not intended for cabinetmaking, they can be used in a pinch. Good British Sheffield steel holds an edge without chipping or roll over if you sharpen properly. (Don't forget to flatten the backs! Only needs to be done once, but most skip this step and it makes a big difference.) Although you CAN use these chisels with a steel hammer, I never will. I use a mallet and five years later, mine still look new! For the quality, my set was an exceptional value. Paying more wouldn't improve performance. Again, for standard carpentry, (which is how 99% of people will use them,) these are the best chisels available. Get the 750 Sweethearts for cabinetmaking. These chisels are another example of why Stanley is still around after 175 years.
Tough product, good steel, great for any shop! Have even larger one! They last, sharpen well and hold edge!
These chisels are awesome.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had these for about 3 months now and they're great! They fit my hand ergonomically well. Chisel through wood like butter. Accidentally dropped a couple and they stayed in intact no damage to the handle or blade.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought a full set of #60 chisels 50 years ago for my Dad, he still uses them today. I bought a full set of The Fat Max chisels because of the thru-tang construction. This is a very durable chisel, will out last me. Maybe something my grandson will inherit.
Great chisel set. I love that it has a steel butt.
Purchased these in Australia 10years ago never let me down once, hold an edge well and sit great in the hand I would only use a wooden mallet or rubber hammer, they still do the job, which is what you expect corn Stanley
