I decided to get the dutch oven without legs, just in case I ever wanted to use it at home. We recently used it camping, and I'm hooked. We cooked dinner in it and my daughter and I even baked a cake. It does it's job perfectly. and seasoning it wasn't "that" bad. I used a fan to keep the smoke detector form going off every few minutes.
seasoned up really well on the gas grill in one try. great pot, I love the lid and can lay things wrapped in foil on it to keep warm.
Bought this dutch oven for girls' camp 2011. Made the most beautiful golden brown cornbread on a bed of white hot coals in 15 minutes! Plenty big enough to serve ~12 people a bowl of stew or soup. Make sure to season it well (in spite of the smoke that might fill your kitchen) as you only have to season it once and then it has a fabulous non-stick finish and is easy to clean. I also plan to use it at home in the oven -- that's why I bought the dutch oven without feet. Use a wire hanger to lift lid and pot off of fire.
very good price on something that will last a life time
Went camping and used this every night, as long as its tempered with oil, it worked perfectly! Great price for something so sturdy.
I try ti season it twice, but it still getting red after every useI put on oil after very wash to keep my oven in good condition. I see Walmart has seasoned Dutch Ovens, I did not see them before I ordered mine. I use this oven every weekend when I go to car camping in Catskills. It works great! I am not good cook, I like easy cooking style. So, this oven is great for my style. I put in meat, some veg little bit of water or OJ, not too much to avoid it getting over, put it on grill, and I am done. After about 30 min I have my dinner, delicious. It is heavy to carry, but it cooks great, really like oven. I put some woods on the top too to heat it from top down.
My first impression was that the ovens (I bought 2 for breadmaking) were not as solid as I remembered cast iron cookery to be. However, after seasoning in the BBQ, they seemed quite nice and if not as thick as my 20 year old cast iron skillet, they certainly do the job and they were the cheapest of multiple options. Good value.
It is well put together an not paper thin like some things we buy now-a-days! it takes a few tries to get it seasoned.
It seems very sturdy, but the coat it with a waxy residue that was not easy to remove.
Pot came with one handle not two, pot warped out of shape, 1/8 gap between pot and lid that fit very badly like it was made for a smaller pot. have purchased other dutch ovens from walmart and was very happy.I should have spent more on a better pot.
