Just what I wanted - a utilitarian letter opener. It does exactly what it was designed to accomplish.
Was looking for a clean and paper cut free way to open our mail. Doesn't get dull like those promotional letter openers. Will feel a little better about myself when my mail doesn't look like it was opened by a toddler.
I keep a few of these around the house. Always need to open the mail and I might be in so many places in my home. It makes life easier why tear an envelope when you can just put the opener under the flap and open it 1-2-3. Very reasonably priced that's why we have a few - On the table in the entry foyer in the kitchen home office and even the den. You never know where you'll be opening your mail.
It's funny that I am even spending time reviewing a $2.00 letter opener but hey they asked so here goes. This letter opener works OK but has a tendency to tear more than slice open envelopes. It has a nice tip so it's easy to get under an envelope's flap but it will start to tear as opposed to slice unless you have exactly the proper angle on it. For the price it works fine. I'll be going back to the X-Acto style opener as soon as it arrives. (My local Staples only carried these rather old-fashioned openers.) If you need something in a pinch and can afford a couple bucks knowing you'll probably throw this out or keep it only as a backup then it's a fine instrument.
It works well. I am happy with its functionality. I think the quality of the product could be a little smoother on the edges from where the die they used to punch it out of the metal. All in all for the price it does what it's supposed to do. Open envelopes!
Ok Letter Opener
It's a nice piece of steel but it has no edge as provided. I took the time to sharpen it a bit so it actually cuts envelope paper more easily. Not actually knife sharp but with a better edge. Now it works better. Too bad they couldn't do a good job.
I am used to letter openers with razor cutting blades which are much more efficient than this. This tore the envelope rather than slicing it open and it took a lot more effort. It looks nicer but I prefer the free promotional letter openers I've used before.
I was disappointed in the quality of this simple office tool. The side edges of the blade were very rough to the touch. I would not recommend this product. I purchased a better quality item with a beveled stainless steel blade. It also has a double-sided handle of another material attached to the stainless steel that feels nice to the touch. I purchased it at Walmart for $1 less than what I paid at Staples.
the sides of the letter opener were not filed/sanded leaving rough edges that one could injure oneself on. I will probably wrap duck tape around the handle to protect myself. it did work for opening letters. I bought a few years ago at staples. Back then they were a much better quality with no rough edges
