You MUST have two Box Buster sets to play the game

VBSGuru November 13, 2015

This is a neat model with tons of detail. The paint job is fantastic! There are no smudges or missed prints like many mass-market models have. Even the tiny windows on Darth Vader's TIE Fighter are darkened. The Death Star is removable and can "explode" if you push it down and release it (it only pops in half, but still very cool). The whole thing can be folded into a box with very close allowances between each of the starships and the other pieces. This explains why the X-wing is not folded out into true battle mode. While as a model it is superb, you do need to be aware that the game included has to have a separate box for each of the players (only two can play at a time), so plan to buy at least one other set if this is your aim. You also need to know that the Death Star is a deluxe set, so it is 8 times larger than all the other Box Busters. When I realized I needed more than one for the game to work, I purchased two of the smaller sets so that neither of my boys felt cheated. A small side note is that even though the other sets are so much smaller, they also have incredible detail for their size, even including things right down to footprints in the snow on the Battle of Hoth, and faces on the Ewoks on the Battle of Endor. The game (once you own the right number of boxes) is pretty fun, but hard to understand at first. There are two versions of the game. One is easier than the other, but both are confusing at first. Once you've played several times, though, it becomes funner. I would recommend this toy for no one under 8 or 9 years of age, mainly due to the complicated nature of the game. The set is well-built, but I am not sure it can take much kid abuse. Anyone who is a Star Wars fan will love them, especially if they are looking for a diorama of movie scenes.

Simple Star Wars game with fun collectible!

CuteEverythingcom December 9, 2015

I think these sets are probably a must for any Star Wars collector, and a fun collectible and game for any Star Wars fan, like my family. The main feature is the cube itself, which in this case, portrays the battle against the first Death Star at the climactic ending of the original Star Wars' film (aka, Episode IV: A New Hope). It includes the Death Star, which is spring loaded to "explode" when a player wins. There are also different spacecraft fighters for the Rebel Alliance and the evil Empire. The cube snaps together easily (sides first, then the long piece, and the final side snaps in). The cube is also spring loaded, so when you press the Star Wars logo -- which is also a button -- it pops open. An important note is that each player needs their own game set to play, but whether it's the larger or smaller cubes won't matter in terms of gameplay. The gameplay itself is simple: Basically, both players roll their dice to see if either player has more "blasts" than the other player's "shields." The first hit you get in pops open the other cube, and then advances you through the four areas. Whoever reaches the fifth area first -- the Command Center -- wins the game. Simple, right? However, "special" attacks can roll the other player backward, and that's where the fun surprises lie. There is also an advanced version of the game, which offers more complexity, but really, my son seems to think the best part is the cool, spring loaded Star Wars diorama that's the centerpiece of each game set.

Great game for your child without spending a lot.

oldwoman52 November 10, 2015

Death Star Box Buster. This is for 7 years old and up. This game is a fantastic game for your child to express Star Wars and its super weapons. The Death Star is the Empire's Ultimate weapon: A moon-sized space station with the ability to destroy an entire planet. But the Emperor and the Imperial Officers like Grand Moff Tarkin underestimated the tenacity of the Rebel Alliance, who refused to bow to this technological terror. This game really fuels your childs imaganation. It comes with one box buster, 1 dice, 1 assault marker, 2 charge tokens, one battle mat, and the game instructions. Let your child get ready to pilot your x-wing through narrow canyons and destroy the empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star. There are two levels of game play, basic and advanced. These portable, foldable pocket worlds are push button activated. It has on cube and dice. This will test your child's imaganation to its max. My grandson loved it so much. He also has the X-Wing remote control starfighter, so he can add this to it and have an awesome fun time with them both. I received this from Spark Review as a free gift to try. I must say my grandkids are having a blast with these items, especially the Star Wars toys. I know they will have many hours of fun and this is something he will be able to also play with, with his dad. Thanks so much.

You need atleast 2 sets to play.

buyerfromhere December 5, 2015

Ok, so I am writing a review on the star wars box busters death star super playset. The first thing you should know is that you can't play this game unless you buy at least two sets. I did not know that. So I only have the one, which is basically like having have of a game board. I have studied how to play and do plan on getting another one so I can play it with a friend though. To play you need at least two players, each one having their own box buster set to use as their game piece. Then you both roll your dice at the same time. The outcome of the rolled dice tells who wins each round and how far they advance. Eventually one player wins by taking control of the other players box buster play set. So I would still recommend this to a friend, only I would recommend buying at least two of them so they can play.

Not amazing, but my son loves it

lhartness November 11, 2015

When I saw the Star Wars Box Busters Death Star Super Playset, I jumped at the chance to get it for my Star Wars-loving family. It looked like a really cool item to add to my boys’ collection of toys and games from the Star Wars universe. I should have paid more attention to the description of the product, as it was much smaller than I expected. It’s downright compact! The game easily folds up into a box, which encases the Death Star component of the toy, as well as the other small pieces that are included. Once we had the game in operation, I wasn’t very impressed with it and found my interest waning almost immediately. My ten year-old son however, really loves the concept and couldn’t wait to play it with each person of the household. He acknowledged that a good portion of the game relies on chance, with the roll of a game piece. But he doesn’t really mind at all. He thinks the game is really cool and is thrilled that we have it. My silent response was, “Well okay—to each his own, I guess.” Although I find the game simplistic and kind of dull, if my boy likes it, then that is the more important thing. And with no batteries required, there’s no excess noise and it can travel with you just about anywhere. I don’t give this a hearty endorsement, but my son certainly does.

Neat Star Wars Set

MimiLinMar November 7, 2015

I received this Star Wars Box Busters, Cube Super Playset, DeathStar game a couple of weeks ago, and unfortunately, my grandsons haven't been able to really play it yet because you need to have someone else who has another game to play against each other. I have ordered some other ones so we can see what it's really like. Will get back with you later on that. Also, this is for children ages 7 and up, and I have grandsons ages 8, 10, 12 and 16. The 16 year old used to love Star Wars, but he is into video games more now. So are the 10 and 12 year olds for that matter, but we shall see.

I could see some kids enjoying this.

LakePlacidmom November 17, 2015

This item comes in a relatively small package. Nowhere in the description or game rules does it state that in order to play the game with a friend, you will each need to have one of these sets in order to play. It comes with rules for two different games which we couldn't really play in full because we only had one set. The game board is also just a simple printed page on which you set out the box and play. The small pieces would probably get lost quickly and I don't see how they would easily store in the box. The details are kind of neat and I could see a child who is really into star wars enjoying this so for the right kids, there might be quite a bit of play value. The "death star" item in the middle of the box does come off/apart if you press on it, but not sure exactly how this works into the game play. I think that figuring out the game would take some adult involvement, so maybe for playing with your kids it would be good - but for them to figure out on their own - it's a gamble.

Still don't know how to play

Spark501 February 16, 2016

This gameplay is very simply and involves no strategy but just luck. This isn't something I would bust out on game night to play with my friends. I'd assume this game is catered towards younger children who would want to "battle" their friends during recess. SUper simple game play that even young children can play it - as long as they do not eat the pieces. This isn't like any other games where you challenge friends (pokemon cards, magic, etc), there is no strategy and no way to customize your gears. Simple, straight forward, luck of rolling the dice, quick, game. Perfect for killing time but I do not see any appeal in continual play. Only if you are trying to win after losing, but that will all depend on the luck of your dice rolls. Pros: small, portable, simple. Cons: requires a second set to play - which is why I feel it is more targeted towards young children who would want to play against friends during recess or lunch.

not what i thought it was..need more than one cube

mommyofet November 29, 2015

I thought this was a game and it is, but no where does the box say you need another cube to play! like what?? I thought you just played with one, but no you need to buy two of these to even play right! why wouldn't they say that? it seems simple enough to play, but it's pointless with one cube. you are suppose to play cube against another cube, so i'm not sure how you would play with just one. which is disappointing and I would think Disney would do a better job letting people know that you need another one to play. it's small fits in the palm of your hand. well with this cube you get the death star scene, cute little death star that explodes in the middle, (millennium falcon, x wing, tie fighter, they don't remove from the cube). you get a battle mat, combat die, assault marker, and 2 charge tokens. you know its probably a decent little game for kids, the box recommends 7 and up for small pieces, but it's hard to fully enjoy a game without another cube. or just have it for display? they did bad marketing for this, if you bought one for Christmas please go get another cube so that you're kids can play the game correctly.

Need two to play

Terri October 20, 2015

I received this through Bzzagent. We where thrilled when it got here. The kids where excited to open it up and start playing with it. The thrill soon left because you need more then one to play. If I had two I think it would be a hit. I can see where it would get boring after awhile. Hopefully I can get a second and do another review.
