Stardust (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Steelbook)

I very much enjoyed revisiting this film in 4K UHD. The beautiful steelbook packaging, included art cards, and a code for a digital version were welcome bonuses as well. I would highly recommend this package for fans of the film and especially for collectors as steelbooks tend to go out of print eventually.

I have been waiting on this on 4K for a while. It is a nice steelbook with some picture cards. My only concern is the holder does not hold the discs well

Very nice glossy steelbook! Glad this movie was finally released in 4K format. Audio and video qualities were exceptional. I wished the discs were housed separately inside the steelbook, instead of being stacked on top of each other.

This review is for the 2024 limited edition 4k physical release of Stardust, and not meant to grade the movie itself. First off, and most importantly to home theater hobbyists: this isn't a native 4k film restoration- it's a 2k upscale. Also, the build quality of the steelbook is run of the mill, cheapish feeling plastic, with the two included discs stacked one atop the other on a single spindle, rather than a halfway overlap. When I first opened the packaging, the UHD disc was loose inside the case, no doubt sliding around during shipment. Bummer. This is a common problem with multi disc Steelbook releases, and a good reason to avoid them whenever possible. The Walmart exclusive pack-in character cards are a nice touch and appreciated, however. As for the video quality, I didn't notice any AI smoothing nonsense, which is probably down to this not being a native 4k transfer. I'm not really in a place to accurately judge color grading against previous physical releases, but on my Sony Bravia 9, colors didn't really "pop" on the 4k UHD disc compared to the 1080p version or streaming quality. The included Blu-ray does have more visible but unoffending film grain, lending it a more authentic feeling film presentation, and oddly a sharper looking image. I screened the movie listening to the English language DTS-HD Master audio 5.1 track, and found the dynamics to be adequately punchy, with clear dialogue and overall a balanced presentation. This isn't the type of movie I personally prefer to test on my surround sound at reference levels, but I doubt it will hold any ugly surprises at higher volumes. The film extras are all on the Blu-ray disc, including multiple video commentary tracks, deleted scenes and bloopers, plus featurettes. Overall, I wouldn't really recommend this release at full price. $25-30 is awfully steep for a 2k upscale and a bunch of extras that were available ten years ago, but maybe it's worth it if you're a fan of the movie, or just concerned with collecting physical releases while they're still available.

The steelbook has an exclusive design compared to the general release. My only issue is the clips holding the discs are weak, so they were loose during delivery.

Fantastic movie but i think the art in the steelbbok could have been better..plus there's not much difference between the 4k and standard blu ray in picture quality or sound..if you already have the blu ray keep it..unless you collect steelbooks then i would recommend it.

A nice looking steelbook package, but beware, the hubs are not very secure on these. I had 3 different copies of this, and all 3 of them were floaters, with one of them scratched up so much that it caused playback problems.

good= outer packaging bad= inner steelbook/ cradle. stacking the discs on top of each other promotes scratches.
