StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5? SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable w/ UASP

This adapter cable works exactly as expected. My Ubuntu Linux systems recognized it and the connected SATA hard drive immediately without any compatibility problems or additional setup. File transfers through USB 3.0 were quick and reliable. The cable feels well made and is extremely useful for accessing or backing up internal drives without installing them in a computer. I'm very satisfied with it and would definitely recommend it, especially to other Ubuntu and Linux users.

Upgraded an Acer Netbook 756-2420 about 8" x 11" folded and about 4 years old. I loved the form factor, the screen and the keyboard of this small PC, but it was very slow. I used the cable to clone the old Hitachi 5400 RPM 500GB HDD contents to a Samsung 250GB SSD. The migration software came with the SSD. Just plugged the USB connector into a USB port on the PC. Plugged the SATA end of the cable into the new 2.5" SSD. The HDD had 60 GB of data which took about 2 hours to clone onto the SSD. With the help of online videos I disassembled the Netbook and swapped the SSD for the HDD. (PC runs Windows 10 upgraded from 7 & 8). Sleep time went from 15 sec to 5; shut down from 25 sec to 15. But the biggest difference was that every click resulted in snappy response - Windows updates that choked the PC were satisfyingly quick. I can now use this handy little PC for a couple more years. (I hoped SSD lower power usage would extend the battery life but it didn't. I'm still very happy with the speed increase.)

I bought this after my old laptop crashed with windows 10 upgrade and had to recover my files from the hard drive. I originally bought an enclosure hard drive adapter and it had issues with windows 10 compatibility so I had to return that. This adapter was the best choice. It was very easy to work with and had no compatibility issues. New laptop to which I connected this adapter is windows 10 and old laptop (hard drive with the files I wanted to retrieve) was on windows 10 when it crashed. I was able to recover/extract files from crashed laptop hard drive with such an ease!

I bought this product about 2/3 weeks ago for my old Internal Sata HDD that I removed from and old PC. Instead of smashing it up I decided to buy this cable and turn it into an external storage device (after formatting). I must say for the price it is spot on, the build quality is great, it comes nicely packaged and I did a speed test with my brothers regular External HDD and the difference was noticable. PC repair techs wanted $100 to retrieve data on the hard drive in my laptop that wasn't turning on. Of course they didn't mention I could do it myself for under $15. This was very much easier than I thought it would be, since I'm not a tech lover. But just undo a few screws and pop out the hard drive. Hook that up to the cable and attach to working pc...then transfer files. My kid could have done this! Saved me a ton of money, worked flawlessly, and no software needed to install. EASY, CHEAP, and WORKS. What more can you ask for?

Just got my cable, seems to work with some 2.5" HDD's and not others. Particularly IBM 500GB 7200RPM 2.5" drives. Tried on 2 Lenovo laptops, t400 and t440, and macbook air. IBM FRU 1P42D0752. All drives work with BYTEC drive mate with power supply. Also the cable is only 9" long making it awkward to hookup and use. No usb 3.0 or data indicators. Also I can't boot off known good drives with this cable. I am able to transfer files with the drives that do connect to the laptop
