Bought it today, slapped a Samsung 840 pro SSD inside, hooked it up via USB 3 and instantly got a reading of 455 Reads and 421 Write speed. Then I transfered 10 GB of DPX files and took under 8 seconds! The USAP in this enclosure is the major advantage. Its self powered to boot. Perfect for very fast portable storage.
I like the design even though it is not one of the tooless models because it is lower cost and yet made of cool running aluminum. I have used an old hd from a 2009 era laptop just to keep the files safe and everything working very well and simple at 3 weeks of usage. There were reviews of this model that discussed it as having a better chip in it than many others, but that is outside of My wheelhouse having been unable to locate any visible markings on the chip while the enclosure was empty. I will find out if the reviews on here can be edited at a later date for longer term use as I acquire and utilize other drives with SATA 6 GB interface and not just the SATA 3 GB interface that I am using this for now. At least I found out that it works well with the old drive and even more important for Me being that the old lappy can survive a while longer without excess burden and new faster drive.
I love this product. It is easy to use and working great.
Edges are rough and sharp; apparently, they can hurt if one is careless. I expected smooth edges. I now store it in a case sleeve so it can't do harm. It was hard to attach a Crucial SSD. I had to unscrew the board, attach the SSD, and screw back the board. It was tricky to do that. The angle had to be right. Otherwise, it did the job. I cloned my HDD, installed the SSD, and stored the old HDD in this case. I chose this because the specs said it can handle 1TB; but I wouldn't buy another one like this. I
After trying a pair of the S251BMU313 and also a pair of the S251BPU313 but both of these models having driver issues on Windows and Linux so not working then being returned, I tired a pair of this one... These are both as if they're dead-on-arrival and don't provoke any response from any of my Windows computers (7 / 8.1 / 10) or my Linux OS-based NAS, and not even a flash from the LEDs of the enclosures (with or without an SSD fitted)... Absolutely useless. They are also specified to have the ASMedia 1053 chip but actually have the ASMedia ASM1153E chip.
