Great for people with limited space for cooking. Multiple cooking style. Temperature control is a major plus
I decided to really put it to the test with a slow cooker short ribs recipe. I used the browning feature first. Heats up very fast and browns really quickly. Switched to the saute function to cook down my onions and peppers. The unit performed admirably. Now to the slow cooker. The unit worked as I would have expected. One pot, all three functions! Living induction cooking!
Works very well. Tried 2 recipes and both came out good. Not only does it work well, but the size and style are fantastic.
Little bit of a learning curve because the instructions are very limited, but otherwise it's a fantastic addition to my kitchen.
WOW just WOW! Just received my Staub Multi Cooker. Super impressed. I've used it twice, once to make a beef stew recipe and second used just the base to cook pork chops. The beef stew came out delicious, loved that I could brown and then slow cook in the same pot. I followed the directions and ensured that the preheat completed before adding my browned meat back in to slow cook, absolute perfection! I then used the base only to cook pork chops, I loved that I could adjust the temperature to suit my needs. An awesome product! Can't wait to keep cooking! Way to go Staub...
We tried out our new cooker with our existing 5.5 Qt Dutch oven. The browning feature worked wonderfully, coming up to temperature very quickly and browning the mean and sweating the onions very rapidly. I then shifted to slow cooking which I found to actually be lower temperature than was expected and had to move to the high level of slow cooking to get it close to a simmer. It is nice to have the two settings, as I am finding that the lower temperature is lower than what I expect which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It would be nice if you could adjust these two settings to match your Dutch oven size, as the smaller it is, the harder it will be to get it up and maintain the temp during the cook. (I did get and use the smaller ring to match my oven size.)
I've only used it once so far, to make chicken cacciatore on the braise setting. I used the browning setting to prep the chicken and vegetables and start the sauce and then put it on braise for 40 minutes. When I lifted the lid, the sauce was bubbling furiously, which is too hot for a braise. However, the dish was absolutely delicious and the chicken was perfect, not overcooked. There was some burnt sauce at the bottom and it took a good soak and then some baking soda to finally get the bottom of the dutch oven clean. The reason I'm only giving it 4 stars at this point is that the instructions that came with the cooker are very inadequate and with the print so small on a dark background I am not sure I'm reading it correctly. I wanted to download a user manual so that I could read it in a larger size, but could not find one. Is there one? I would also like to get some sample recipes to get a better sense of how to use the cooker. For example, can the temperature on the braise setting be changed? How does one use the manual temp control? The cooker itself is beautifully designed. Looks great. I like that the control panel can be hidden during use and storage. I did find the touch buttons difficult to activate. The on/off button is difficult to engage. I had to hold the control panel with one hand underneath and use a finger on my other other to get enough pressure to actually turn it on and off.
Induction cooking takes a little getting used to, it can get very hot very quick! Slow cooking is my intended primary use. As such, I wish there was some kind of a top adapter that could be adjusted to fit a wide variety of cast iron pots.
The low temp for the slow cooker is way too low. After eight hours on low, carrots are still crunchy. I use this function to cook meals while I am at work, and was disappointed to get home to undercooked food.
Difficult to regulate temperature. No simmer and will not maintain an even boil for making soup. Instructions and online video for operating are no easy to follow. Very disappointing as I was looking forward to trying induction cooking.
