[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received SteelSeries’ Aerox 5 Wireless Gaming Mouse to test out and review.
I love gaming and was looking into buying a new gaming mouse, so was super pleased to recieve and test it out (thanks Influenster!)
The packaging is both sturdy and sleek, which I liked, and within the box was the mouse, USB Type C and A cables, Type C wireless dongle, extension adapter and instructions.
The Aerox 5, like other gaming mice, has RGB colour changing lights which are nice and thankfully don’t seem to drain the battery life too much (according to the company, you can play for up to 180 hours. Fast charging can provide 40 hours of gameplay from only a 15-minute charge)
Set it up and played a variety of games to test it out, such as, Rusty Lake’s Roots, Rusty Lake’s Hotel, CoD and LoL, and here are some pros and cons I discovered:
Pros:
- Good battery life, charges quite fast when connected by wire ( so their above claim is accurate)
- Really is Ultra-Light as the name suggests - I was previously using a Corsair that my dad bought a while back, which was a bit of a hassle when I played fps games, so this is a welcome upgrade!
- Total Customization - 9 programmable buttons with a 5-button action panel includes a tailor-made up/down flick switch. You can customize every click with ease using the SteelSeries Engine
- Super sensitive, which can be a minus sometimes, but you can adjust this in your preferences
- Solid wireless connection without any perceptible input lag
Cons:
- The software is glitchy at times, making configuring the mouse more difficult than it should
- The mouse can sometimes be slow to come back up when the USB receiver is disconnected and reconnected
- The side buttons are quite cushioned which means that I didn’t get the greatest feedback when pressing, but I do feel like I’ll get used to this over time.
- Somewhat awkward button placement (for my hand at least), can't really find a good grip that allows me to hit some of the buttons at the same time or one after the other (like 3 and 10) without having to shift my hand
Overall, a great mouse that I would definitely recommend to others and will continue using myself. Does have some negatives, but the positives far outweigh the negatives and the product is as advertised. Would love to try and test out some more of their products (heard great things about their headphones!) in the future.
