Once activated, this worked great with my cordless home phone and was able to keep my number. Able to use with internet. I got a little confused trying to activate. However the Rep was able to help me and set it up. Less monthly cost than the major phone company.
Straight Talk Home Phone has better reception than my last "home phone" from a different company and it installed easily, however, it had to be done with customer service which is NOT in the US and it was very challenging requiring several calls and lots of wait time.
This is fantastic way to give a love one a handset/home phone while you enjoy the freedom of cellular price and flexibility. This has helped us so much with our elder loved ones that refused to use a cell phone of any type.
The price was right at Walmart and following instructions. The online setup was very easy to do. I did however I tried to call Customer Service, but after being on hold for half an hour, I decided not to bother with them. I went back to the manual and redid everything and it worked. I got the phone going and it looked very nice on my little desk in the corner of the room. It picks up two bars, which is adequate for signal strength in my area. I found a couple of friends and the voice was clear and there was no background noise no beeping or grinding or chugging or anything like that. I guess we're 4999. This is a goodbye because it replaced my home phone. Home phone prices are skyrocket now compared to what one of these costs. When I put it together, I noticed the device had a SIM card just like a regular cell phone. I'm happy with my purchase and the phone looks rugged out to last a while and above all, it's saving me money. I'm only paying $15 a month for the service and I can call anywhere in the USA. The drawback is you cannot text with this device or receive text and you cannot call out of the country, long distance. But you get what you paid for. I really like this phone and I I'm glad I made a good purchase.
Seems more cheaply made than the prior versions of Straight Talk Home Phone bases. Prior versions also had a way to wall mount the unit. This version only has a non-removable base for sitting up. No way to wall mount it. Also, when making calls through this device, the ringing you hear while waiting for someone to answer is a series of long beep tones rather than actual ring sounds. Sounds more like error tones than a phone ringing. Takes some getting used to. Otherwise, setting it up and plugging in the phone is simple. Took a week or so to get my number ported over to it but now it's working fine. Calls are clear and sound good. For setting up voicemail, there are no instructions in the package. Turns out you just dial your own phone number to access the voicemail system. Once set up, voicemail works well enough, activating after 4-5 unanswered rings, or immediately if the phone line is busy.
i like straight talk . BUT YOU WOULD THINK AFTER ALL THIS WALMART ON-LINE WOULD OF LEARNED HOW TO SCAN PRODUCT BEFORE SHIPPING SO CUSTOMER CAN ACTIVATE IT .
This thing works quite well and is easy to set up, but DO NOT order this item for curbside pickup or delivery. You need to go to the store and physically buy it off the shelf there. If you don't, there's a fairly high chance you'll end up with a useless unit that can't be activated due to Walmart not scanning the serial number like they are supposed to. If they don't scan the serial number, then there is no way to make it work, and it has to be exchanged for a new one. Make sure they scan the serial number after scanning the first barcode. When I talked to the person in the electronics department about what happened, he said that happens to a lot of people who purchase this item for delivery or curbside pickup, but it's not an issue for people who buy it in the store.
Although the box was somewhat sealed. Up I n opening the box the unit itself, which is white, had blue scuff marks and part of the information wasn't in the little bags. One of the antenna bags was open. I think the unit m ay have been bought and returned, maybe refurbished. I'm not sure I got the NEW unit I paid for!
When I called to activate I was told it was not scanned properly and I needed to take to the store to be scanned or email a copy of receipt as well as a several other information to activate.
It worked ok the first day. Next morning, no dial tone. Shut off, turned back on. Dial tone for a few minutes, then no dial tone again. Returned to walmart.
