Just like the old days of absilutely cleaning my vinyl, and shellac records. Helps to keep the fuzz that may be in the groove fromm dulling the records.
This record cleaning system is the same as the Spin Clean one that goes for twice the price. The difference between the two is that the Studebaker uses cleaning solution only on the brushes, while the Spin Clean basin gets filled with water and you add the cleaning solution to the brushes. Do yourself a favor by buying the Studebaker cleaning system and a bottle of Spin Clean MK3 solution. Then clean your records as per Spin Clean and enjoy the savings vs buying the Spin Clean one.
I've cleaned a half dozen LPs with the Studebaker. Really seems to clean the vinyl well. Not noticed a dramatic improvement in sound quality but perhaps the records weren't that grungy. Time will tell if the unit and its components last.
not really what I expected
Manuel turning record can be a problem. Otherwise it will do what you need.
I have to say that I am not a specialist in any way of vinyl record cleaners . This review is what my experience was while I was trying to get my vinyl records cleaned. A while ago, I bought a VICTROLA vinyl record cleaner for $36. When someone gave a review for it, he said he got by mistake 4 (four) of them, but he only paid for one. Then he started using one of them for washing the vinyl records and another one for rinse. It have to be said that the body of the cleaner allows to add cleaning solution, (about 900ml from my observation). You have to be careful not to add too much so that the label of the vinyl record will stay dry. I decided to spend a few more dollars, and buy another vinyl record cleaner, then do the same what that guy was doing: clean the vinyls with one cleaner and rinse them with another cleaner. Because the VICTROLA was no longer available, I decided to buy the STUDEBAKER SB450 vinyl record cleaner. The only difference between these models is the color of the exterior. VICTROLA is brown while STUDEBACKER is black. Other than that, they are identical. So I started cleaning my records with the VICTROLA, filling up the body of it with cleaning solution (ideas how to make your homemade cleaner are everywhere, online). The issue that I noticed is that the brushes are not close enough one to each other. When I was cleaning, the vinyl was spinning easily. I could not guarantee the cleaning is very good. After I let dry my record (on a dishwasher drier that I bought from the dollar store), I put the record in the STUDEBAKER SB450 to rinse it. For that, I filled it with about 900ml of distilled water making sure the label of the vinyl stays dry. While I was spinning the record, I got a way bigger resistance. I did not measure the distance between the brushes, but I thing that on the STUDEBAKER, the brushes are closer to each other compared to the VICTROLA. They are doing their job way better than the VICTROLA, because there is way more friction between the record and the brushes (without damaging the record) . The problem is that while I was spinning my vinyl record, the rollers of STUDEBAKER were "falling apart". In the middle of the roller, there is a white plastic gasket. When I was spinning the record, the two parts that make one roller were falling apart creating a bigger gap, and the vinyl record got between the white gasket and one of the components of the roller. When that happened, the roller got out of it's place of the record cleaner getting stuck on the vinyl record. I changed the rollers from STUDEBACKER with the ones from VICTROLA and the problem was gone. I will try to contact walmart to see if they could send me another set of rollers (a new pair is $19.99 at walmart.com). As a final conclusion, the STUDEBACKER cleaner used with the rollers from VICTROLA is working PERFECT.
Not elegant but it does the job
This is a knock off of the Spin Clean Record Cleaner. For what it is worth, the pads and rollers are the same size as the better name brand device. My main complaint is that the pads are not quite thick enough, there by not enough contact is made by the pads on the vinyl... The name brand pads will fit in this device however so that is one solution...Also, if the MDF under the case were a bit stiffer that would be a better thing too. Maybe there is a little variation among production samples and I received a "loose" unit...Overall this is a useable item but I think the genuine Spin Clean is probably worth its price. I'll keep this one to use as a second unit .. It would be nice if Studebaker sold replacement rollers and pads for their product..
Was disappointed it wasn't automatic, thought it was battery operated
Do your self a favors and don't waste your money. I have clean 11 records and the pads are already coming a part. If u must have something like this to with the spin doctor. Very in happy
