This is a great resource! Well organized and laid out. Not overwhelming for kids or adults. Just a little a day will prevent summer lose! I wish we could afford to give every kid in the school one! It covers it all and includes resources to use beyond the book itself!
Summer Bridge Activities offers a variety of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies activities for students to explore over the summer months. My favorite parts are the bonus sections which offer open-ended activities for students to stretch their thinking and explore the real world around them. This is a great tool for parents looking for activities that will continue to stimulate their children's thinking and keep their skills sharp as they prepare for the next school year.
The Summer Bridge Activities Workbook is perfect for keeping students engaged in learning over the summer. It is divided into three sections with enough activities for daily practice. The subjects included are reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and physical fitness. Bonus activities are included at the end of sections. There is even an online component with additional activities. You can order this book in print or as an ebook. I highly recommend this for students so they will be ready for first grade!
Parents...Avoid the summer slide with Carson Dellosa's Summer Bridge Activity books. These books review what your child learned the past school year and previews what they will learn in the coming year. These books cover a wide range of topics including reading, math, writing, science, social studies, fitness, character development and much more! Give your child a jump-start on the next school year by spending just 20 minutes a day throughout the summer with this award-winning series.
I highly recommend this workbook to help retain what was learned throughout the prior school year and prevent summer lose. It helps keep things fresh in the student's mind and prepares them for the new school year. We used this in conjunction with the Spectrum Math (kindergaten level) as a refresher during the summer months prior to my son entering first grade. I love that this book is multidisciplinary, covering reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and even physical fitness and health. The activities are short and sweet, and even fun. I like that there are colorful illustrations throughout, which adds a little something extra and is especially nice for younger grades to make things more interesting. There's even a suggested summer reading list and punch-out flash cards in the back of the book.
The Summer Bridge Activities workbook for kindergarten is a neat workbook. It is divided into 3 parts, 20 days each: flexibility, strength, and endurance. Each section has activity pages, science experiments, social studies activities, and outdoor extension activities. It also has flash cards and an answer key. The different subjects studied with in the book are: reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and physical fitness. There is something for them to do each day. The books focus on target skills that students should know at each grade level. Each day has a few things for students to do. Like practice writing letters and numbers, letter sounds, or practicing their addition or subtraction. I like that it has students practice things that they will need for the next year without being overwhelming.
It is a well-known fact; students that do not keep their brains active and challenged can, through the course of the summer, lose much of what they worked so hard to master during the school year. It is important to keep children engaged and progressing to maintain the skills they have gained during the school year, and to prepare them for what the next school year holds. As a kindergarten teacher, I highly recommend The Summer Bridge Activities books to parents that are looking for a way to provide their child with an engaging and fun way to avoid summer loss. As a parent, I can tell you that my sons (ages 5 and 10) both enjoyed the lessons and activities last summer and we are looking forward to using them again this year.
We have been using Summer Bridge books for years now. I think it's important to keep skills fresh on kids' minds throughout the summer. The 1 page a day is 'just enough' to keep them learning without the work taking up too much of their day. My soon-to-be 1st grader LOVES doing her work. Most of the skills are already things she knows but that's ok since I'm not concerned about teaching new things...just trying to avoid learning loss.
My son has been working through this workbook. Many of the pages he can complete on his own as he figures out the directions like fill in the missing numbers our alphabet. However, my only negative is that he gets frustrated when the directions are more than he can read and he asks me to read them to him. Otherwise, it's great and something we work on every morning.
