This is a large roll that covers a great amount of area. The material is very strong and heavy duty, yet breathable to allow drainage and prevent mold growth. We are using this to redo our walkway, replace old material under a deck and sitting area, and prepare a few new garden areas. The amount of material provided is enough for multiple projects. The width of the roll allows for shorter lengths to be cut for small projects.
Where most wee barrier fails is it's not thick enough. Weeds and grasses break through. Add mulch with wood chips on top of that even if it isn't permeable mulch can break down into a compost like soil and weed spores and grasses can find a new seed bed to begin all over again. The 4' width, length, make this ideal for adding stakes. Any gardener could water this and make magic happen.
This weed barrier is genuinely high quality, and you can feel it the moment you start working with it — the 5 oz fabric is thick, sturdy, and lays flat without tearing or stretching, so even though installation takes time, the payoff is worth it because it stays put, blocks aggressive weeds, lets water and air move through, and looks cleaner and more professional than the flimsy big‑box options, making it a long‑lasting, reliable choice for beds, pathways, and any area where you want durability that actually holds up.
We are in the process of building a deck for a seating area next to our pool. This was the easiest weed barrier I've ever used. I used three strips to cover a 9' x 12' area. We just dont want to deal with any weeds underneath the new deck. It comes packaged very nicely and unrolls well. Cutting was simple and so was unfolding. I do plan to use some landscaping staples to keep it in place. This has two sides, a fabric side and a more plastic side. We did fabric side down and plastic up. I think this has really kept it from moving in the yard while I wait to tack it down. I do have plans to use this for garden purposes as well. My mission is to redo all my Iris beds and keep weeds from taking over. This will be perfect!
This is the best material I have ever used for a weed barrier! I've used this in the two small dirt areas that are within my block-walled condo-patio. The material is very easy to work with and it fit perfectly. This material is guaranteed for 25 years; if I get 10 years out of it I'll be happy! I am very happy with this product you will not be disappointed.
We used a variety of weed block mats in our garden. Some SHRINK considerably, but this didn't. The underlay of non-woven may help prevent contraction. May that shrinks not only leaves edges exposed, but garrotes young plans as it contracts against supple stalks.
This does seem to be a superior product compared to non-commercial weed barrier products. Its heavier than what you would normally buy, seems to be professional strength, sturdier. I like the width of 4 ft making it easier to use for wide areas without overlapping. There were no instructions for which side goes up, felt side or the other so I only gave 4 stars due to lack of instructions but someone with more expertise in landscaping would know. But because of sturdiness it should last a long time.
I ordered this Weed barrier for my flowers beside my driveway. I have a big Yard and i am a new Gardener. I how this works well to keep the Weeds at bay. It was a Wide roll which most are not wide enough to cover a whole path between beds. I do feel it is EXTREMELY expensive though. But, everything has gone up so much in price .
As someone who has spent decades using weed-blocking fabrics extensively, I have seen an evolution in composition. This is one I have not seen before now. One side is felt-like fused with a woven side with thick identifiable 'threads' that are much wider than usual. From that perspective it is almost reminds me of the outdoor plastic straw mats and rugs offered as patio decor. So, it appears to be more stable than thinner options which can be easily stretched and/or torn. My immediate concern was which side was supposed to be laid down vs. up since the felt-like side would seem to hold moisture, which is undesirable for my purposes. There were no instructions. So, I looked at the manufacturer's website. The only assumption I can make based upon the pictures is that the woven side needs to be exposed, so the 'felt' side will be protected by the plastic above. I really like the width, six feet, since I do large areas and working with the standard three foot wide versions becomes tiresome and time-consuming when laying down: overlapping, then nearly double the number of landscape staples to be inserted Even then, the additional 'seams' when using the less-wide versions increases the potential for lifting. This reduces those installation steps and decreases the related risk. Cannot speak to the purported 50-year product life span. I may not even live long enough to establish that attribute. But, I do assess that this is a superior product compared to most non-commercial landscape fabrics designed for underlayment. I cannot give the fifth stars due to the lack direction as to the manner of installation and the fact that I cannot make any representations as to the long-term performance of the product. Though, I suspect, it will deliver.
This landscape fabric is advertised as Super Geotextile Pro Grade 5oz Weed Barrier - Heavy Duty Landscape Fabric - Weed Block - 25 Year Fabric 3' x 100' , If one is not familiar with landscape (weed barrier) fabric, AKA geotextile fabric, it is rated in ounces. The specified ounces has to do with the thickness of the material. The higher the ounce rating, the thicker and/or heavier the material. The heavier and/or thicker the material, the better it is at blocking weeds. For example: A less expensive 2 or 3 ounce fabric, is not nearly as good at blocking weed growth as a 5 oz or thicker fabric. Of course the thicker fabrics are considerably more expensive. The heavier fabrics will usually last longer as well. Unfortunately, fabric ounce ratings can be deceiving. It would be 100% better if such fabrics were all rated in “Millimeters” of thickness, as is done with plastic tarps and other rolled goods. Over time, I have purchased many different types of landscape fabric. The ounce ratings posted by online sellers is often exaggerated and suspect. I have encountered several online landscape fabric sellers where lesser grade, 2 or 3oz fabric, is advertised as 5. 6, or even 8oz. It is akin to advertising a gallon of something, then sending one a quart. This specific (5 ounce) fabric is a mid grade fabric. It is questionable that it is actually a full 5 ounce fabric. When compared to some accurately rated 5 ounce fabric that I have on hand, this supposed 5 ounce fabric, is much thinner. Either way, it is definitely better than what one will see at the big-box hardware stores. If one is landscaping a small area or has a limited budget, this fabric should work well for you. It is OK for what it is, but one needs to be aware of what they are purchasing. It is advertised as being 3 ft. x 100 ft. It is folded in half before it is rolled up and placed in the shipping carton. That is not a big issue but one needs to be aware that they will have to unroll the entire 100' roll, lay it out flat, and unfold it before using it. Otherwise it might be difficult to cut to length while still folded. I hope this review is helpful.
