Super Sculpey Ultralight, 8 oz.

Surprised at how versatile this product is! Take little or no conditioning. Slight powdery texture doesn't stick to your fingers. Extremely light weight. Painted nicely too. G Had intended to use as armature but ended up finishing the sculpture with just ultra light and some liquid polymer.

I've been using Sculpey products as one of my mediums for the last 31 years as a professional artist (sculptor, author, illustrator) and am the owner and creator of Dragon Folk Studios. Sculpey Ultra Light is an indispensable integrant in my clay studio, significantly strengthening the bases of the characters and creatures that populate my enchanted realm. I blend Super Sculpey Ultra Light with scrap clay at about a 1:4 ratio, then cover with rolled sheets of whatever color Sculpey lll or Premo is needed. My clients are often so enthusiastic at fine art shows, that they pick up my larger, heavier pieces with one hand, so extra strength is definitely a win!

Sculpey Ultralight handles differently from other polymer clay products, such as Premo, but is excellent as a base structure for large products, such as beads. It takes some getting used to; for example, it conditions unlike any other polyclay, but once you get used to it it has no substitute. It also carves very easily once cured.

I use this type when making larger or thick earrings so that they are not too heavy. It also performs well when using molds or stamps as it is non sticky.

I'll admin that it took me a while to like it. Sometimes, it's honestly like trying to sculpt with whipped cream. BUT I didn't give up on it. It bakes so nicely. It's hard and smooth! I use it on top of all of my aluminum foil to strengthen and solidify my armatures. Once baked, other clays adhere wonderfully to it. Also, it never dries out....TIP: Smooth Ultralight with ultralight wrapped around your finger....you'll get a surface like buttah!!

This is great clay. Easy to use and manipulate for every level user and age.

very playable. great for larger pieces. not as suitable for small details because it is too soft and squishy but can be mixed with other sculpt products.

I love the softness and playability of the ultralight. I love how it looks, feels after being baked, and especially the extreme lightness of its weight. The downside for me is the durability. I drill bead holes and the materials chips away easily. Even if I just scratch it with my fingernail. It also indents and stains easily. I will alter my process to put the hole in before baking and see if that improves the end result. I sure hope it does because I love it so much otherwise.
