We tried all kinds of products before I found Sweeney's Mole and Gopher Solar Powered Sonic Spike. Upon installing the spike, we received almost instant results. I saw a gopher in my back yard the night before we purchased the spike. The next morning, my husband inserted the spike and we have not seen any more pests. Thank you for carrying this product. I have told all my friend about this wonder product.
We've had issues with gophers for years but since I've place the Solar Gopher Sonic Spike in strategic areas, we haven't seen any signs of them in our yards.
I have had issues with groundhogs since I moved here two years ago. There is a beaver pond about 200 feet from the back side of my house, bordering my back lawn and the groundhogs have their "dens" near the pond. The groundhogs were particularly troublesome this year, with both adults and young appearing daily throughout the day, usually just feeding on the back lawn. This year, one came up to my house and made 4 or 5 holes under the deck skirting. Every time I filled the hole back in, the little "darling" would come back. Then it decided to nibble on some of my plants. Moth balls had no effect. Two weeks ago, I put one of these spikes on my lawn about 30 feet from the deck. Three hours later the groundhog had finally come out from under the deck and disappeared. There has been no sign of groundhogs, day or night, ever since. I plan on purchasing one or two extra spikes, just in case this one gets broken. Be sure to follow the directions and make a hole with a pipe or wooden stake. If you have hard or rocky ground like I do, the plastic spike could break when you try to insert it. The instructions also say to have no obstructions within 95 feet, I assume that means underground obstructions. And the spike has to be removed before the ground freezes. It has an on/off switch and makes a sound every 30 seconds which can be heard if you are standing close to it. Apparently the vibrations which it sends underground extend some distance. One day I had nuisance pests and now they have completely disappeared. Only time will tell how durable this is. But even if it has to be replaced annually, it's worth the price.
Seems to work, The area where I started has no Mole activity so each week I enlarge the area and have moved the mole .
This is maintenance free due to being solar powered! It works really great! My flowers are growing again and I'm not tripping on all the soft mounds! It does take a couple of weeks to clear all the moles out but then works like a dream!
I have a small front/back yard that is destroyed by moles/voles. I purchased three of these last summer and put one in front, side and back. I found the best way to install them is after a rain when the ground is soft. make sure to put it in a sunny spot and all the way into the ground (clockwise turning while pushing down) with only the screen showing. (I have seen a couple of yards who have these sticking up out of the ground!) I check them every few days and wipe the screen just to be sure it's clean enough to charge. They do get rid of the offending pests in the yard if installed correctly.
You would think this would be a no brainer installing these spikes but it's kind of a pain as you can't just push them down in the ground unless you have real soft soil. If you live in an area where you have hard clay then you will have to pound or drill a hole to accommodate these spikes. If you push on them too hard you could possibly damage the spike solar cell that charges the batteries so you have to carefully make a 3/4" wide 8" deep hole. These spikes was suppose to deter the voles/moles from my yard but they dig all around the spike so I would say they do not work or the voles/moles are deaf?
I placed one in my small front yard and one in my small backyard, to repel a recent occupation by gophers. After nightfall, I verified that both units were getting light from porch lights and we're working even after dark. The next morning, I observed a gopher pushing soil up from his burrow in the front yard not 10 feet from the spike. In the backyard, a gopher literally burrowed up right next to the spike and covered the solar panel with soil, killing the power.
NOT ONLY DOES THIS NOT WORK THE MOLES BURROW AROUND IT. I AM GOING TO GIVE THIS SAME FEED BACK TO SWEENEY'S, WHO MANUFACTURES THIS POOR EXAMPLE OF A PRODUCT...
It's been in the ground for a month and they actually pushed it around. Either they love it and it has called all the moles in the Ozarks to our yard or it's mole 'amphetamine' and makes them tunnel around 3x as fast. Either way my yard looks like Swiss cheese.
