These traps are easy to set up. Great directions and packaged well. We've placed our traps but haven't caught anything yet. May be too early in the season yet or it's possible we have them in the wrong spot. Hoping the can grab a mole or three, as well.
These are a very well made steel trap that is extremely durable and very strong. They were easy to put together. I actually placed it in the open hole with a string attached so I could pull it back up. It works very well since I have a large back yard. I was surprised how fast you can get rid of these pests with this type of trap. Only had for 2 weeks; but have caught 3 so far. I would definitely recommend this product.
My husband set a trap in an area we just began seeing holes appear. We had previously attempted to flush the little booger out. Unfortunately that did not work. We prefer not to use poisons on our property seeing as we grow our own fruits and veggies. This trap however did! My husband left a second trap out incase we have more than one. Nothing just yet but there doesn't seem to be any new holes in the area so fingers crossed that was it. I definitely recommend this trap.
If you have a garden, you need these traps! It only took me a few minutes to get the hang of setting the traps, and in no time, I had my first catch! It is a great product, from a trusted company. I will definitely purchase more to cover my two acre property. I feel confident that I won't have issues with gophers this season!
I'm not in the habit of setting traps, so I enlisted my husband to help with this. The trap was small enough to set down in the tunnel, but setting it was a bit scary for me, the hubby didn't flinch. Lol We did catch a couple of moles with it, but there are just too many in our yard to keep setting these. Overall a good purchase if you dont have a 3 acre yard to try to rid them.
Once it warmed up and I was seeing some regular critter activity, I thought I would get them out of the box and give them a try. These are basically over-sized wire mouse traps and you have to actually find their holes, dig down, and get them laid into the gopher run. I'm sure they are quite capable of dispatching the little guys when they get tripped, and over time, they would get easier, but, unfortunately, I do not have the hand strength to set them. I wish I knew what happened to the ones I had years ago that poked down into the ground over their trails. You could set them with your foot, and when you pulled them up, the gopher stayed under the ground.
Now I love victor mouse traps but these are too complicated for me! I tried and tried to get these set and I never could. I had to have someone else finally get them set for me. Make sure you anchor these to the ground so you know where you put them. Tie a string to it. I have not caught any yet and it has been several weeks so I am disappointed. We have had storms so not sure if that was the problem. I have moved them to different mounds. So not sure if they are just smarter than the traps or I am not doing something correctly. So I am disappointed, but not blaming the product. Just here to set. These look brutal. It is two spikes and it supposed to stab them. So I am Not sure this is instant death or not so I was a bit concerned about that. I don't like gophers but don't want to make them suffer.
I have a fair gopher problem at certain places on my property. I have tried most of the home remedies for such things but they never curbed the problem sufficiently for me to notice. I decided to try these and I will preface this by saying I am still looking for a better way to rid myself of the varmints. These traps were not expensive but the design was a bit complicated. Think of a paper clip with 5 moving parts. Setting the trap correctly was difficult for my old hands and it required a fair amount of thumb pressure to set them correctly. I came close to driving one of the spikes through my hand when I just couldn't put any more pressure on it while I was trying to set the trap. 3 hands would have helped. Once the trap was set I noticed it took a lot of pressure on the release pad to actually spring the trap. There is also some preparation involved in placing the trap. It must be placed in the tunnel, covered up with no light coming into the tunnel, and then tethered to a stake outside of the tunnel. Ultimately, it just wasn't worth the effort. After 2 weeks placed in an active tunnel, I dug out the trap and it wasn't sprung. In fact, I took a stick and applied pressure to the pad and it did finally go off but I suspect I was putting enough pressure on it to equal the weight of a raccoon. Next time I'll be trying the repellent pellets.
Too much prep work required. Too hard for an inexperienced older woman like me to use. Maybe a man who is familiar with contraptions like this might be okay with it. Preparing the gopher hole and setting the trap was too tedious. I would prefer baiting them and ridding my property of the varmints in other ways. Eeewwww it is not dead! What am supposed to do now? Would not buy one for me to use.
I have been dealing with moles in my yard for years. With this trap, you have to dig a hole and place the trap under ground. This just makes more damage to a yard. If it rains, the soil collapses on the trap and keeps it from working. The trap gets packed with dirt and mud and makes a mess. Placing the set trap in the ground can be a task in itself and be careful, if you happen to hit the trap the wrong way while placing it in the ground it can go off and get your hand. I gave this trap a try and didn't get a single mole. I tried several different ways to place it under the ground but nothing worked. They would just go around the trap. I have yet to find a trap that actually works as described that goes in the ground The best I have found so far is the above ground trap that has the spikes that go down into the ground when the trap is tripped.
