Great kayak! Fits in my car I dont need to buy a truck or different vehicle to haul it. I read reviews that the seats come unzipped when your sitting in them. I use zip ties to stop that. It has a very durable bottom to it. Most kayaks don't have a skeg. This one does and it tracks very well when you have the skeg attached. Its a very nice kayak!
I'm very impressed with the quality of this inflatable. It's comparable to some much more expensive brands.
After spending time Kayaking using a friend's hard kayak I decided I liked it enough to get one of my own. In the near future my wife and I will be traveling a lot in a Class A motorhome which precludes us from purchasing a hard kayak. We decided to shop for inflatables. Because it's a new sport to both of us, we didn't want to spend a whole lot, and needed a kayak that would handle two people. Did a lot of online research and visited a bunch of stores locally, then decided to try the Solstice Durango Kayak based on it's cost, design and weight carring capacity. When it arrived I was very impressed at the quality of the construction. Materials look heavy duty and well made. Rubberized bottom looks stong enough to handle scrapes, and the fabric covering the air chambers looks stong too. Three air chambers makes it safer in case of a leak. (One chamber on each side, and the floor is a third.) It inflates quickly with an inexpensive dual action hand pump and actually deflates well enough just by opening the valves that it isn't hard to fit back into the bag if folded properly. NOTE: Pay attention to how it's folded from the factory! I took photos with my phone to be sure I re-folded it properly. When inflated properly the kayak is ridgid enough to carry by the end handles and it's very stable in the water - GREAT for beginners or those a little spooked by the tippy feeling hard kayaks can have. I've used hard kayaks without the skeg but having it installed with this kayak is a must because the wider, flatter bottom means it doesn't track quite as well as a hard kayak and wind has more of an effect on it. That said, I still think it's an awesome value. We use it primarily for lake paddling but I have plans on doing some near shore paddling along the coast. There's not too many reviews for this model but if you search around you will find the same kayak appears to be branded under a couple different names. Another thing to note is it's pretty wide so make sure you get longer paddles. According to common paddle sizing charts, 220cm paddles should have worked for us, but we exchanged them for 230cm paddles. I'm 5-8" and my wife is 5 5". You'll find overall positive reviews if you search around with only one issue mentioned. The seat zippers at the seat base don't lock in place and can unzip over time, especially if you don't have the front seat straps snug enough to hold the seatback upright. Hasn't been a problem for us so far. One last thing to note, is taller paddlers might be a little cramped sitting in the back with both seats in place. Your knees will have to be bent., front had plenty of room as does the kayak with ony one seat. While not mentioned in the description, there is a drain valve at the back for letting water out. Be sure to wipe it down before folding. We pack it up, bring it home and inflate it to let it air dry completely before putting it away to storage. We love this kayak, and thank VMInnovations for selling it at such a great price. (no, there was no compensation for this review)
This boat will be used primarily for lake use in Colorado. The inflate/deflate function fits my needs for now. It fits my 6'4" frame well and has, so far, handled well in the water. I have yet to float it with my wife because of the water temperatures, but I am not expecting any issues. A good purchase and I would highly recommend a pressure gauge for proper psi determinations.
Fast shipping
Comes with 2 seats but can easily remove one. Very tough and sturdy -- well made.
The kayak was defective. No reliable item. I would not recommend it.
