This is a good little masher and is very sturdy. There's nothing like good old fashioned hand mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes. My kids absolutely love good, creamy mashed potatoes with some lumps. So, hand mashing is the way to go. It does take some muscle power to mash a lot of potatoes at one time. But, if you cook them just right, whatever vegetable you are mashing will be extremely soft and easier to mash. We have used it a few times already and it has worked great. My daughter actually used it to make guacamole. The avocados need to be really ripe and then it works like a charm.
I can honestly say that the picture and description of this potato masher does not do it justice. This potato masher is built so sturdy and strong that I doubt that it will ever wear out regardless of how many times that I use it, which will be often because mashed potato's are one of my favorite foods. Rather than ever wearing out it will be passed down to one of my kids someday who will use it for the rest of their life and pass it down to one of their kids. For making mashed potato's it works a lot better than the plastic masher that I have been using. It's also a lot faster and easier than using an electric mixer, which I have used in the past, and this one is so much easier to clean than the electric mixer I don't understand why I ever used an electric mixer.
The T-fal Basics Masher is very durable and easy to use. The masher has stainless steel wires and a hard plastic handle that fits good in the palm of your hand. It is dishwasher safe and has a warranty for life from the date of purchase, as long as the masher is not misused. I have received this item from the Spark Reviewer program.
This is a very nice masher! It can be used to mash potatoes, root vegetables, tofu, avocadoes, apples, berries and more. The masher sure beats trying to mash potatoes with a slotted wooden spoon or fork. Thankfully, it's no longer an arm workout to get mashed potatoes. I'm very pleased with this masher. I find it to be very sturdy, durable and of course functional. The handle is very sturdy and the wire head of the masher has a heavy quality feel to it. I have mostly been using this masher for making mashed potatoes. But have also used it to mash avocadoes for guacamole and even made cauliflower mashed potatoes with it. And it mashed everything perfectly. I'm planning on making some preserves / jams & will be using this masher to mash the fruit up. So I will be getting a lot of use out of it. Overall I have been loving this masher and definitely would recommend!
This is a great masher to have on hand. The handle has a thicker plastic coating to make it easier to hold and not slip. It was easy to wash with my normal dishes in just hot water with dish soap. I used to mash red potatoes with ease in a smaller dish that wouldn't accommodate beaters.
I'm very pleased with this masher. So far, I've used it to mash potatoes, and cauliflower. It does great on both. I'll definitely be using it at the holidays to mash sweet potatoes too. The stainless steel “wire” is really strong and the handle is comfortable to use. Since you push down with quite a bit of force when mashing, it's important to me that it feel sturdy but feel comfortable in my hand. It has a nice wide mashing surface which makes quick work of the job. I love that it's dishwasher safe too, making cleanup that much easier. The product description says it can be used to mash avocados for guacamole and also to cut butter into flour for pie crust. I hadn't thought of that, but I'll be using it for those things too. Really glad to have this particular tool in my kitchen.
If what you are looking for is just a good basic masher this one will serve you well. It is nice and sturdy. I used it to make my smashed roasted potatoes when I was roasting other vegetables and it worked great. I used to own a masher like this back in the 70's when I was just starting out until it broke. I hadn't had one like it in quite awhile because I have my grandmothers circular one that I have been using for years but it's getting old enough that I want to make sure and keep it so figured I'd better buy a new one so I don't end up breaking Gram's.
This masher makes my job a little easy. With the masher, I can make homemade mash potatoes. Easy to use and it is easy to clean. Dish washer safe. Last for a while because my momma still have hers from 5 years ago. I recommend the Masher to every cook at there.
T fal is a great grand and this basic masher didn't disappoint Sturdy and with a nice comfortable handle you can mash potatoes Sweet potatoes bananas etc. the only reason I took a star was Because it's a bit short for a large container. If you use it For a medium to small container or bowl is just perfect but If you have to mashed enough for a large gathering or more amount you'll feel that the handle is short. Besides this It's a great tool.
A potato masher needs to be sturdy. I don't expect the plastic handle to last. I can feel it flex at the joint, where it meets the metal masher portion. It also has a large hole around the area where the metal masher goes into the handle that holds water and food particles (see photo).
