Older laptop overheating. Purchased this and the problem is resolved 100%. Duel fans are quiet. Also tilts the unit to a nice degree, so is better ergonomically.
My wife gave me my first laptop; a Toshiba w/a 17.3in. screen; for Christmas. Over the last few months I found out just how hot these things can get. After an exhaustive search, I found this chill mat. I read reviews on it and found both pros and cons about this mat. Someone said it was too loud. I can't understand that because mine is virtually silent. I almost can't tell if it's running or not. Someone else said their computer stayed too hot even with the fans running. I experimented with this and found that if I left the mat in the flat position, my computer stayed a bit warm, but when I opened the mat to the full open position, I hardly noticed any heat at all around my computer. In fact, it felt quite cool to the touch. Needless to say, I am thoroughly pleased with this product and I will certainly recommend it to all my friends who use laptops. Oh, I forgot to mention the four extra USB ports are a major plus too. And at this price, you can't go wrong.
The Chill Mat that I have is fairly quite (like white noise) and it is making a huge difference in keeping my Dell laptop cooler.
I love this product! It's my second one, I figured I needed an upgrade after 6 years and I looked to Targus once again.
HAVE AN OLD 17INCH Z-BOOK, THE FRONT EDGE OF THE CHILL PAD NEEDS TYO BE HIGHER TO ASSURE THAT THE COMPUTER WILL NOT SLIDE OFF
Mostly dead on arrival. I could plug it into a USB-to-AC adapter and the fans would run. But plugging it into USB-C ports with an adapter did not spin the fans. But the same ports drove other cooling pads with no issues. While I was running it on an AC-USB adapter, the fans were too noisy and not in sync with each other, so it generated a dissonance and harmonic that was annoying.
I bought this cooling pad for approx 3 months before the left fan started making a really loud noise. I tried using canned air to blow out any dust that may have gotten inside, yet that didn't help. For the price, I thought this would last longer. I got MAYBE 4 weeks total use out of it before it messed up since I didn't constantly use it for my laptop.
Fans started to scream at certain angles after a few months. I've serviced fans on many devices in the past, however I was not able to figure out how to break down the unit to remove the fans for cleaning and lubrication. I really wanted a laptop fan with a hub, and had hoped this would have lasted longer, especially for the price.
I really liked this at first, but after a month or so, the fan on the left started to buzz horribly, so I unplugged, and plugged it back in again an hour or so later, and that fixed for a while. Then a week later it did again, so I tried the same thing, but it is only temporary and eventually it doesn't stop the noise at all. I do like the shape and the USBs work great, but I can't play games, watch videos, or even do college work when it makes such a racket.
Is significantly smaller then stated and has a very slippery surface leaving your lap top teetering and unstable.
