I have idiopathic severe eczema in my lower legs probably from ageing. This OTC hydrocordizone 1% helped me in reducing chronic itchiness to a tolerable level so I could sleep. It did not however put the red spots into remission. For that I had to get a prescription from my doctor for something stronger. Texture was fine for me as I rarely wear long pants in my climate region, so nothing for the ointment to stick to. Squeeze tube application method caused no difficulty.
