Nice big umbrella perfect for golf season, great size for the price. Recommended. Just check your golf cart umbrella holder because the umbrella has a very wide base and barely fit in mine.
I have never owned an umbrella of this quality! Automatic open by pushing a button; push the button to close and it quickly folds the top and you push down to bring it back to its compact size. Quality is top notch-you can actually "feel" that quality throughout the umbrella. As I live Florida, umbrellas are not only for rain, but I always take one when we attend my grandson's soccer games to keep off the sun. The venting at the top of this umbrella totally helps with eliminating some of the heat. The size of the umbrella is perfect for one, a little tight but doable for two people. Handle is comfortable to hold and I appreciate the added wrist strap. This umbrella has also been wind tunnel tested and supposedly defies gusty winds up to 75mph. Seriously love this new umbrella!
This Taylormade umbrella looks like it will do what it says. Now, I live in NC and we get hurricanes so, right now there is no chance of me being able to test the 75mph wind gusts to see if this will stand the test. But, I will be trying it out at the next rain storm we get. I looked at how it was engineered and they put a really strong tether to the underside of the umbrella to prevent inversion. It is also quality made and does not look cheap. The reaction time for the umbrella to open when the button is pressed is probably by far the fastest I have witnessed. It springs to full open in a fraction of a second and it was a little startling. The handle has a comfortable grip and they included a strap to hang it or put on your wrist if needed. It is a smart looking umbrella.
I have never had a golf umbrella before, but this umbrella is truly massive! I don’t play golf, but I have often thought that most umbrellas are too small because if rain is ever coming down at an angle, which it often does, then an umbrella needs to be extra big in order to keep your legs dry. This umbrella is fairly heavy, but that’s the price you pay for the large size. It’s also quite long. Don’t expect to be able to store this underneath your car seat. The umbrella takes a little extra effort to close since it’s more hefty than most umbrellas, but unless you have mobility issues, it should not be a problem. The mechanism locks into place when you open it wide enough. There is a little button near the handle that opens the umbrella for you. There are two straps with Velcro to secure the umbrella when not in use which is nice because it makes it more secure since it is a long umbrella. The handle is really comfortable too. I wouldn’t want to hold this umbrella for more than 15-30 minutes at a time since it is a little heavy, but for casual use I think it is perfect!
Full sized umbrella for one person. Deploys with one hand, has flaps to let wind through, easy to store.
Great golfing umbrella. Very large and handles the Kansas wind.
Very bulky. But if that doesn't matter to you, it will keep you dry and warm in very casual recreational activities. Not appropriate for business casual or nicer.
The TaylorMade Vortexvent Compact Golf Umbrella was more like a more shallow standard size umbrella than a golf umbrella. The TaylorMade umbrella weighs 1 pound. Closed, the umbrella is 13 inches long and 2.5 inches wide at the non-handle end, which forms a rectangular shape when closed. The Vortexvent umbrella had a comfortable ergonomic handle that was bigger in the middle and tapered with a rubber grip. The handle is 1.5 inches wide in the middle and 1.25 inches at the tapered end. The TaylorMade umbrella was 39 inches across when opened. It is a shallow umbrella not having much depth as the sides do not come down very far, which provides less coverage when the rain comes in at an angle. The middle depth was approximately 7 inches and the at the most outer rib bend was 6 inches. The TaylorMade umbrella has an attached 9 & 1/8 inches long and 1.5 inches wide closure strap with velcro. The strap did noticeably hang into my field of view so I had to make sure and turn the umbrella so the strap was in the back of me. There is no steel tip on the end of the umbrella and the handle as a cord wrist strap. The TaylorMade umbrella has been wind tunnel tested to perform up to 75 miles an hour. It has not been super windy, since I have had the umbrella, but I did take the TaylorMade umbrella down at an angle and turned with my back to the moderate wind and the ribs did bend back. The TaylorMade umbrella is stated as automatically opening and closing with a push of a button. The 11/16 inch wide button is easy to find and push. The Vortexvent umbrella did pop fully open when the button was pushed every time. When the button is pushed again it does not fully close instead only the top part of the umbrella collapses. Then, it is necessary to close the umbrella manually by telescoping the shaft to the latch. In usual umbrellas you would pull down the umbrella to close it; however this is not recommended in the instructions . In the instructions for the TaylorMade Vortexvent umbrella it is necessary to collapse the umbrella down the shaft using each palm, pushing on the end of the umbrella with one palm and pushing on the end of the handle with the other palm sandwiching it together, which requires a 25.5 inch arm span. This method of closing also requires some force since the TaylorMade umbrella uses springs under tension. I found this difficult and hurt my palms more so if I did not use the heel of my palm. It is also watery, so water gets on your arm and hand since the umbrella is wet on one end when you close the umbrella. In addition, when doing the sandwiching to close the umbrella I had to make sure and not push the button by accident because I did accidentally open it again when I was trying to close it. The TaylorMade Vortexvent golf umbrella has cable enforced technology which helps prevent the umbrella from flipping inside out. This means that there are cables that run along the rib to the edge of the umbrella which bow away from the interior of the umbrella, thus they hang into the umbrella giving less clearance. The back of my head was feeling the cables and my hair was getting stuck on the plastic connectors, when i did not make sure to keep the TaylorMade umbrella centered with adequate space from my head. The cable hangs into the umbrella approximately 1.5 to 1.75 inches. The TaylorMade Vortexvent golf umbrella comes with a lifetime warranty for replacement or repair with no receipt required, no charge for return shipping, no fine print, and no excuses. The warranty covers normal wear and tear. Care and instructions are to always leave the TaylorMade umbrella open to dry; if stowed wet the frame could rust. Open/close the umbrella carefully; flexible ribs could be deformed or shaft damage if umbrella is abused.
I really liked the look and size of this TaylorMade golf umbrella, but unfortunately, the shaft broke within the first few months of use. For a premium brand, I expected better durability. Hoping the company can improve the build quality in future models.
It rained today so I used it for the first time today. The windproof golf umbrella could not tolerate the wind and one of the skeletons snapped. It is a lot cheaper than other real golf umbrellas but now I know why.
