I am fairly new to detecting and I was fortunate to have been able to try out a few detectors before purchasing this one. There are several reasons to buy this machine 1-the ground balance feature! I do this first thing. It sync's the detector to the ground conditions, it is very easy to do and helps the detector "see" whats in the ground for better noise free identification. 2-the 99 levels of id/descrimination. while the indicator may point to a nickle I know it is not a nickle unless the number is 57, a nail is 31~33, and so forth. and when the number jumps up and down I know its a pull tab because I never get the same reading twice! 3-the screen is HUGE! much bigger than what I thought it would be. very clear and easy to read. 4-the 4 tones. this is how I learned with a machine that had no Id or depth meter, just listen and dig. i found a lot of pulltabs this way, ears get fatigued. 5-Battery-only needs 1one 9volt for 30 hrs+ of operation, which is nice because my pinpointer uses 9v also, so not having to lug several types of batteries around is a big advantage. 6-Light weight. barely over 2 lbs 7-two headphone jacks! one small 3.5mm, and one large 1/4". your choice and no adapters. 8-volume control!! try listening to a less expensive brand beeping in your ears all day at full volume. a bit more on the expensive side but over-all a great machine!! it is easy to understand and operate, and gives you more levels of identification to help in your search, unless you really want to dig up all those pull tabs? of course since it is a new machine I will dig just to see which target is identified by what number. I would definately recommend this unit just for the extra help in identifying targets but, as you can see above, there are many more reasons worth considering to buy. Happy Hunting!!
I have been swinging a detector and recovering coins and artifacts since the early 70's. I have owned garrets , whites , minelab , bounty hunter . I presently own Garrett AT PRO , a BH discovery 3300 , and the Teknetiks gamma , each detector has a specific use. the Teknetiks is a breeze to use it is basically a high end Bounty Hunter . The ground balance works well , the sensitivity is super , on a par with the $700 AT Pro the Teknetiks is a strong 8 . The reason being , the depth indicator on the Teknetiks is almost always wrong other than that it a great , reliable , easy to use and understand machine at a very good price . Go out and buy one , learn it and have some fun !
Good unit. Easy to use
I will admit I have not done coin shooting in awhile, but after comparing the gamma to a harbor freight 9 function metal detector that I got new for $35.00 on sale and a coupon (for the grand kids) I would not have spent the $500.00 on the gamma. After a couple weeks of using both on the same patch of ground, I have found many more coins with the $35.00 detector in less time than the gamma and the pin point function on the harbor freight unit has been right on which is more than I can say for the gamma. The harbor freight unit won't go as deep as the gamma but at 3 to 5 inches its more than adequate for most coins and it has a better range of discrimination than the gamma. It's sort of seat of the pants detecting compared to the gamma and certainly not as fancy, but more fun than watching the LCD on the gamma jump around trying to figure out what's down there. Bottom line is considering results and cost efficiency, I would not have bought it and would not recommend it. If your looking for a coin shooter, there are better deals out there.
