Have been using this type for years, the one has been upgraded, it is more efficient, less replacing tank water.
I have 3 tetra 1.5 gallon betta tanks with this type of pump filter system. I found one of my tanks drained half out. Checked tank for leaks, none found. Last night 2 of my tanks leaked half their water out. My guess is the filters get plugged and force the water out the back hinge side of the filter cap and then down the power cord somehow. The filter slids in and out easily, and the cap snaps down tight enough to seal the filter sides so the water is forced thru it. But when filter is not changed once a month it will plug and water can only exit under cap edges. Some people have complained that the cap will not close all the way. I had to trim the edges of 1 filter with sissors so it would slide in all the way or cap would not close. My filters were used for 3 months before they plugged. Hope this helps someone understand why their tank suddenly leaks out half it's water.
The filter works exactly as it supposed to. BUT it doesn't have suction cups. After spending 2 hours looking through Tetrs web sight and 4 phone calls, I give up.
I can't comment on how well this product works because I'm unable to mount it on my fish tank. The clip is not very flexible and won't fit on the lip of my tank. The suction cups are not included. They are available on the manufacturer's website as a separate purchase. Unfortunately, they are sold out and I need a filter installed now. I think it's absolutely ridiculous not to include the suction cups with the filter. I will be returning the product. I contacted the manufacturer to see when the suction cups might be available. They were not helpful and were actually somewhat rude. The product itself might work great for those who can install it using the included clip.
DO NOT BUY THIS FILTER IF YOU HAVE IT THROW IT AWAY! IT WILL KILL YOUR ANIMALS!!! The opening to the fan is dime sized and is only a cm away from the actual fan/blade. It will suck up your animals and completely mutilate them. It sucked up two of my shrimp and cut them up to pieces and I just found my African dwarf frog halfway sticking out.. his arms were completely ripped off and died a horrible death. This is a small filter, made for small tanks, housing small animals but is deadly to anything smaller than 5 inches. This product needs to be recalled immediately.
There is no guard on the bottom of this tank and my betta's fins got sucked into the bottom of the filter. This chopped up all of its fins and it died the next day...
I am not sure how it works because I cannot use it. I did not check out how the main filter attached to the aquarium before I opened the box, took every thing out, and rinsed the charcoal cartridge, and then unfortunately, discovered it hangs off the side of the tank. The filter's tank clip is designed to only accommodate an aquarium with a very thin wall. It did not fit properly in any of the four small aquariums I have because the walls are either too thick or not formed in a way for it to fit correctly. I need something with suction cups. The filter can accommodate suction cups but they are not included. If you choose to buy them from the company, it will cost you approximately $3 for the suction cups but $15 for shipping!! In total, then that would mean I would spend (including tax) around $31 for an inexpensive filter and that is the reason I am giving it such a poor review. For a few cents, the company could include two suction cups so the consumer could have the choice to hang it the way that works for best for them.
I've had soo many issues with water leaking out/over the top with this filter. At first I thought it was the tank water wicking up the mechanism that clips onto the tank (which, this system sucks too, if you do not have a rimless tank, you have to try to force the clip over the edge). But after the 3rd time cleaning up about 1/4 of my leaked tank water, I realized it was coming out of the top of the filter and then running down the back of the tank. I've only had this thing about 3 weeks. I hate it, and want to return it. Worst design ever. Why are they still making this after seeing these reviews about this happening? I wish I'd read the reviews before buying it. :(
Donât let the box fool you. This filter is NOT safe for bettas. I bought one thinking it would be good for keeping my bettaâs tank clean only to come home to find my betta dead because her fins had been sucked into the bottom of the filter.
Shredded my fish's fins would not recommend this filter no one should ever get this filter even for free!!! My 3 year old daughter is in tears because her fish is dead!! Terrible company terrible product
