Tugs You Into The Story

Lelia March 29, 2022

What a great beginning to An Amish Bookstore Series that leaves you wanting to go back now. In my opinion this is Ms Wiseman at her best as I became immersed in the old bookstore and a rare book that seemed fascinating to be able to read. I loved that the Amish main characters seemed playful and fun even with the English main character. You even get a few visits to the bookstore by my favorite characters from a previous series. Lizzie and Esther are beloved and their antics crack me up especially when they get involved in others love life. I enjoyed this book tremendously as the tug and pull relationships were spot on and Yvonne's Faith journey made me cry. I highly recommend even if you aren't an Amish Fiction lover as this isn't typical and predictable. It runs a gamut of unexpected situations that keeps you reading way to late. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Love, Promises and Friendship

Deana April 15, 2022

I have read many books from this author, but in my opinion this is her best one . In this new series the authors delivers a powerful look at friendship, forgiveness and how God works in our lives. I settled in to read a few chapters and found myself reading until I finished the book. The story captivated me by the friendship that formed between two Amish people and an English woman. In the story we meet Yvonne who has been sent on a mission to purchase a very rare book from Jake. She is so sure she can close the deal that her confidence is overflowing. Now isn't it funny how God will find a way to teach us a lesson in the things that we are struggling with. Yvonne has a lot at stake to purchase this book but she doesn't know that Jake can not be persuaded in any way. Meeting Jake was a joy because he is very humble and his faith is strong. I enjoyed reading about the bookstore he inherited and how much it means to him to keep everything the same. Now if he could just keep that pesky woman from Texas to stop bothering him about a very special book, his life would be simpler. I admire that he was determined to keep his promise to his grandfather and no amount of money would convince him to sale. As an Amish he lives a simple life and his word is everything. The book intrigued me and I wanted to know who wrote it and why it was never to be sold. Now for my favorite character who happens to be Eva. There is something special about her with her sweet smile, and a way about her that makes everyone feel at ease. She works hard at the bookstore with Jake and everyone knows that she has feelings for him. Well everyone except Jake. There are some fun moments between the two which made me smile as they dance around their feelings for each other. When Yvonne shows up at the bookstore, Eva feels a tinge of jealousy. She knows that God doesn't want her to be jealous but her insecurity whispers untruths to her. I loved how the author brought these three people together in a story where a woman who doubts God finds answers that help her through a very difficult situation. It was so nice to see a relationship develop between two very special people who rely on God to direct their path. I can't overlook a very emotional scene with Yvonne. This part of the story made me cry as I didn't expect what happened. The author does an excellent job of bringing Yvonne from great heartache to a place where God could heal her heart. Eva and Jake reach out to Yvonne to comfort her which makes her realize that their friendship has changed her in many ways. Grief is hard and it has no time limit. Yvonne turns to her friends for support and finds not only compassion but God's unconditional love. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author. The review is my own opinion.

Delightful and Inspiring and fun Read.

Cindy April 25, 2022

This book was such a joy to read, the characters in the story were relatable. Jake inherited a bookstore from his grandfather whom he adored. Eva is a young woman who works with Jake. Yvonne is a young lady who comes to Montgomery Indiana to buy a rare book for a client that has asked her to research and find and buy for a great amount of money. When she locates it at Jake's Bookstore she attempts to buy it from him. He isn't selling because he made a promise to his grandfather to NEVER sell the book. After numerous attempts via the phone to purchase the book from Jake she decides to go meet Jake in person and try to persuade him to sell the book. After she meets Jake she finds herself attracted to this Amish owner. She starts questioning her upcoming marriage to Trevor and her future. Since Yvonne is so interested in this book, it causes Jake to find out what all the fuss is about with this book so he decides to try to read it. He and Eva set out to read it together. Eva is hoping that Jake will "notice" her as a woman instead of a young girl that he employed years earlier. And so the story begins with many twists and turns. I didn't want to put the book down. There was a fun surprise with reconnecting with the sisters Lizzie and Ester from her previous series. This story exudes faith, salvation, and friendship. One of Beth's best! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and author . Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Engaging Amish Fiction

SunnieReviews March 28, 2022

I loved this book. I loved the connections between the various characters in the book and some unexpected scenes that happened. Yes, this was a very engaging book and it is hard to put this one down. Have to keep reading to see what's next, because you can't be too certain! I enjoyed the Christian themes throughout and the character growth. The characters were well-developed and the non-Amish character, Yvonne was an important part of the story. Their exchanges were very believable and the storyline was new and fresh. I would have to say, this book is a winner. Can't wait for the next in the series! I received an e-book copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

A Gem of a Story

migdalia April 4, 2022

An unrequited romance and a rare book . . . That phrase is a perfectly fitting description of The Bookseller's Promise. But if you think that description sums up the whole story, I'm here to tell you that it's not even close. Yvonne Wilson is on a mission to acquire an extremely rare book, and she finds out that an Amish bookstore actually has the book. However, when Yvonne contacts Jake Lantz, the bookstore owner, she is shocked when he informs her that the book is not for sale. Because Yvonne is not one to give up, especially where a large payout is involved, she decides to travel to Indiana so that she can speak directly to Jake and get him to change his mind. Jake owns the bookstore that had been his grandfather's, and Eva Graber has worked with him ever since she was fifteen years old. While Eva would like Jake to see her as more than just his employee, he seems a tad bit slow in the romance department and doesn't quite get the message. And that is where a story about an unrequited romance and a rare book begins. It's also the beginning of how Yvonne, Jake and Eva's paths cross and merge together, which create a beautiful story. While I loved Jake and Eva right from the start, I struggled with feeling the same way about Yvonne. However, as I got to know the three of them better, I completely changed my mind about Yvonne. Then when a curve ball was thrown into the story, the three characters took over my heart completely. The Bookseller's Promise is a true gem of a story. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. I wanted Jake and Eva to find each other, but I really wanted to know what was in that special book. Author Beth Wiseman flawlessly blended the themes of romance, intrigue, and faith throughout the story, and she did so in a way where the themes perfectly complement each other and do not overshadowed one another. It was a perfect combination as is, but it became even more perfect with some unexpected events that added so much more depth to the story and made me say, "Wow! I did not see that coming!" I highly recommend you read it for yourself and when you do, you'll understand why. ****I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A touching Amish tale!

KrisAndeson April 29, 2022

Yvonne Wilson is a book broker, and she is trying to get Jake Lantz to sell her a rare volume. Jake made a promise to his grandfather that he would never sell the book. Yvonne travels to Montgomery, Indiana to convince Jake to sell her the book. Yvonne does not know how anyone can resist $100,000. Yvonne is engaged to marry Trevor in a few months, but she finds herself attracted to the handsome Amish bookseller. She can tell, though, that his employee, Eva is in love with him. Yvonne's visit along with the rare book is about to change all of their lives. The Bookseller's Promise by Beth Wiseman is a heartwarming Amish tale. It is the beginning of The Amish Bookstore Novels. This novel is well-written with realistic, developed characters. The story is told from three points-of-view: Eva, Jake, and Yvonne (the Englischer). I like that we get to see things from each of their perspectives, but it does lead to some repetition. I liked this unique Amish novel. It is not your standard Amish romance. Family and faith play a big role in the story. It is important to pray and rely on God. He is there for us in the tough times and the good. Yvonne was raised by her aunt and uncle who are unbelievers. Yvonne does not believe in heaven which surprises Jake and Eva. I liked following Yvonne as she spent time in Montgomery and got to know people. Yvonne is in for a surprising journey. The romance was sweet and amusing at times. It is a clean story with the only PDA being a few kisses. It was interesting learning about the special book that Yvonne's client desires. I enjoyed the epilogue which paves the way for The Story of Love. I cannot wait to read the next chapter in these characters lives. The Bookseller's Promise is a touching story with a treasured tome, wedding worries, an unexpected trip, a clamorous client, a bouncy buggy ride, an astounding accident, an extraordinary revelation, and a gracious God.

Review from Rambles of a SAHM

Fitzysmom April 25, 2022

A new series from Beth Wiseman and the story involves a bookstore . . . what could be better? How about a little mystery and romance? Well that's in there too. Jake Lantz inherited the bookstore from his grandfather along with a mysterious old book. Jake's grandfather gave it all to him with the only stipulation being that he not ever sell the book. Jake made the promise and fully intends to keep it. It just so happens that Yvonne Wilson from Texas is looking for that exact book and tracks it down to Jake's bookstore. On a whim she decides to make the trip to Indiana to try to convince Jake to sell it. That trip will change all of their lives. Throughout the story I loved the subtle reminder that no matter the circumstances God works everything out for His people. It's often in the bleakest of times that He makes His plan known. I enjoyed the faith journey of Yvonne and the budding romance of longtime friends Jake and Eva and I look forward to reading more about these delightful people in coming books in the series. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
