The Best Little House in Texas” (1982) is often dismissed as a light musical comedy, but a closer look reveals a surprisingly faithful reflection of the real events surrounding the famous establishment known as the Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas. While the film embraces the energetic style of early‑1980s musicals, its foundation is rooted in historical accuracy. The lead character, inspired by real-life proprietress Edna Milton Chadwell, is portrayed with a level of discipline and professionalism rarely shown in films about this subject. The real Miss Edna was known for her conservative appearance, strict rules, and insistence on respectful behavior. Her employees were expected to maintain decorum, and they were discouraged from socializing in town to preserve community harmony. This disciplined management style allowed the Chicken Ranch to operate for decades as a stable, tax‑paying business. The film does include adult content and brief nudity, but it is presented in a tasteful, choreographed, and era‑appropriate way. The scenes are integrated into musical numbers and are meant to reflect the setting honestly rather than exploit it. It is not intended for younger viewers, but it avoids the crude or graphic tone that some might expect from the subject matter. Historically, the Chicken Ranch earned its name during the Great Depression, when the owner accepted poultry as payment. The film captures this blend of humor and authenticity while also highlighting the real conflict that led to the ranch's closure. The antagonist is based on investigative reporter Marvin Zindler, whose sensationalist reporting targeted the ranch more for political visibility than public safety. The result was the shutdown of a long‑standing local institution, not because of crime or danger, but because of public pressure and moral posturing. In this sense, the movie becomes a satirical tribute to a uniquely Texan piece of history—one that was ultimately undone by modern media theatrics rather than community concerns. It's a lively, entertaining film with strong performances from Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds, but it also carries a surprising amount of historical truth beneath the music and humor.
Such a fun, funny, zany good ole time! The cast is excellent. You cant go wrong with Burt Reynolds, Dolly Parton, Dom Deluise, Jim Nabors, and Charles Durning! Worth adding to anyones collection for sure.

It's a different "customer experience" but worked every bit as well as the other guys and WalMart HAD the video in stock where they did not. It's not the first time and won't be the last I've done it this way.
