Negative reviews are mainly based on not living up to the books. As a movie goes, it is a great movie and Idris Elba is fantastic. Watch the movie first and then read the books. Almost always better that way.

Quality was fine, it was the movie that was disappointing because it had nothing to do with the books.

It was nothing like the books. It was ok as a stand alone movie. But it was more like they took the names from the books and built a movie around them.
