The mantel is truly stunning, of high quality; we are so pleased. It did arrive with a small amount of shipping damage on the corbels, but the nice people at Hayneedle offered us a choice of return or a discount. We took the latter, and were able to repair the corbels sufficiently. Overall, very pleased with the product and with the people at Hayneedle.

I am more than pleased with this purchase. The packing was very good, the delivery time was just two days. The construction is very sturdy and excellent detail and design. I have never see hardwood quality like this a such a price before. I bought the unfinished mantel to coordinate the color with my room. The mounting system is truly great. I could not be any more pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend this mantel to anyone wanting a focal point for their room.

We had to use some wood filler in a couple of spots, and do some sanding, but otherwise the mantle was stain ready. It took the stain well and looks beautiful over our gas insert.

Overall it is a very good product so far. I was kinda impressed with the quality and the workmanship of the mantel. But--- I was not pleased on how it was packaged and the dents of the product. It was sliding around in the box on the other pieces in the box and caused a lot of dings and scrapes It had some of the corners dented to the extent that I had to resurface and round all the corners down. I had to put in a lot of time to make it perfect again, before I could stain it. The time I put in it to make it presentable again, I could of built and carved one myself. I probably would recommend this product and will probably buy my other selves from here.

The mantel is very nice and exactly what we were looking for; however, I ordered the cherry finish and was disappointed with the end result. The stain was not worked into the crevices at the end of the split dow rods that adorn the front of the mantel. The unstained wood shows through, and I'm not sure how to correct it. The piece should have been inspected and flagged before it was sent out for delivery. This flaw makes an otherwise beautiful piece look sloppy; otherwise, I would have rated this transaction five stars.

This indicated it was stain ready, but the one we got was not. We had to fill in some spaces. Also, when we went to stain it, there were areas that would not stain. I think it would be fine to paint, but it was not ready to stain. We worked hard to cover the areas that would not stain. After a lot of work, it looks OK.
