The Giver (Blu-ray + DVD), TWC, Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Based on the amazing book, this movie does a wonderful job of telling the message of The Giver.

Very interesting movie.

I wonder if the authors of the Hunger Games and Divergence series got their inspiration from this story, which was written way back in 1993. This is a marvelous story that relies more on the story and marvelous imageries rather than battle scenes and violence; so it is very family friendly. If you haven't read the book yet, then I would suggest you watch the movie before reading the book. The movie changes the plot here and there to make use of technology that was not available back in the early 90s. Also, the bonus features on the disc was the reason why I bought the disc rather than the online streaming version. The bonus feature has an somewhat in-depth interview with the author, and Jeff Bridges's family reading of the book which may interest some people. The bonus photographic images are also very interesting.

if you want a crash course to the evils of socialist Marxism, watch this movie

My teenagers growing up started asking more questions about Socialism, etc. I was trying to think of a quick synopsis instead of having them read Atlas Shrugged, or even watching that trilogy. If you want a quick lesson in the pros and cons to an ideological social model, then watch and think and discuss this movie with anyone. Bravo to the author and Bridges for making this movie possible.
