The Last Samurai [Blu-ray]

since i was a little boy around 7 and saw a Bruce Lee movie ive loved martial arts, im in my 50's now , years later i found out about Samurai. I've always liked Japan, their culture and traditions. A few years ago I learned more about feudal Japan, and Samurai, the way of the warrior, the code which is Bushido its loyalty, respect, honor, integrity, honesty, compassion and honesty. Protect the people, the innocent and those who can't protect themselves. Im not quite sure if this is a true story or based on facts ,i want to say its based on facts , but its set in the 18 hundreds ,the American Army and a a few soldiers going to Japan, because the Emperor wanted to modernize some and bougt American Army weapons and wanted American Army men come to Japan to teach them how to use the weapons and modern warfare and yes there is Samurai, the story is really good ,the part with Tom Cruise and him with the Samurai is really good. Check the movie out if your a fan of Tom Cruise, or that time period, or the American Army at that time or Samurai. i had a great delivery experience, got it early

Tom cruise actually a good period piece American soldier trains in china scenery action drama good story

I must have watched this film a dozen times. It just made sense to have a physical copy. Hans Zimmer's score, Ken Watanabe, Tom Cruise… amazing story.

Warner presents The Last Samurai in 1080p VC-1 at 2.40:1 on a dual-layer BD-50. This early Blu-ray uses the same master as the original HD DVD, but its sweeping cinematography still makes an impression. Landscapes exhibit excellent depth, while uniforms, armor, and village architecture reveal satisfying texture. Warm oranges and lush greens are especially striking. The transfer is not flawless. Some darker scenes show blotchy shadows, occasional softness, and possible noise reduction, while the blue-tinted forest battle can look unnatural. Nevertheless, strong contrast and detail make this a considerable improvement over standard DVD, even if a modern restoration could do better. The English Dolby Digital 5.1 track runs at 640 kbps. This action epic received no lossless PCM, Dolby TrueHD, or DTS-HD Master Audio option—an unfortunate limitation of Warner's early Blu-ray authoring. The underlying mix is excellent. Galloping horses, clashing swords, gunfire, and cannon blasts fill the room with convincing directionality and powerful bass. Rainfall and village ambience give quieter moments welcome atmosphere, while dialogue remains intelligible. Hans Zimmer's expansive score sounds stirring, although compressed audio slightly restricts its refinement and openness. English SDH and additional subtitle options are provided. Warner supplies a generous selection of DVD-era supplements, presented in standard definition. Director Edward Zwick's commentary offers detailed production insight. The History Channel's History vs. Hollywood explores the historical setting, while Zwick's video journal, Tom Cruise: A Warrior's Journey, and Making an Epic: A Conversation with Edward Zwick and Tom Cruise examine the demanding production. Shorter pieces cover costumes, production design, weapons, and military training. Two deleted scenes with optional commentary, Japanese premiere footage, and the theatrical trailer complete a substantial package. The original pressing included a slipcover. Edward Zwick's lavish historical drama pairs Tom Cruise's troubled American soldier with Ken Watanabe's compelling samurai leader. Watanabe is the standout, and the meticulously staged battles, striking scenery, and Hans Zimmer score provide genuine epic grandeur. The story romanticizes samurai tradition and occasionally relies on familiar outsider-redemption conventions, but its themes of honor, cultural change, and personal renewal remain engaging. Warner's Blu-ray offers handsome video and extensive extras, but its compressed Dolby Digital soundtrack prevents an unqualified technical endorsement. Recommended, particularly at a bargain price. A worthwhile early Blu-ray for fans of the film, though collectors seeking a definitive presentation may wish for a new restoration with lossless sound.

Great movie story doesn't disappoint, action and thoughtful character development.

Blu-ray arrived in perfect condition, played flawlessly and it looks amazing. 5/5 movie too.

Excellent Movie, Fast Shipping Thanks Walmart

Arrived safely packed, so there was no damage. Watching the movie was GR8, but too bad it ended up being a "charge of the light brigade" with heroes dying. Well produced and acted monie that continues to draw you in...😎

Tom Cruise really did a great job in his role as a burned out soldier brought to Japan to train their soldiers in modern warfare. The Japanese cast is stellar and the story of honor vs. modernization makes for a fun film.

Great movie seen it when it first came out needed it for my collection
