The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

needed this for our movie collection. disney hardly makes a bad film so I'm pleased with the purchase for the sale price paid

This is one of our new favorite Christmas movies! Its so creative and a great family movie

I don't feel as harshly about this film as a lot of other people do, although I do agree with a lot of their complaints- characters that don't connect and don't have the depth you're hoping for and a script that doesn't have the strength it could have had (and we wish it'd had). I'm not such a fanatic about Disney as to believe that they don't make mistakes, and they made quite a few with this one, most especially not living up to its potential. However, this will probably still make it into my library because it is a cute show. As far as a lot of Christmas movies go, it's a lot better than a lot of others I've seen (which of course is not a reason for a good rating, but let's allow it to be viewed and compared in its genre). The visuals are spectacular. The music is beautiful (which it should be considering its source and inspiration). And, again, the story is basically a cute, fun concept.

Visually, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms was beautiful, and every facet of design, from costuming to the grandeur of the various Realms, was gorgeous. That said, this film seemed to lack in the scripting and dialogue of its characters, and many scenes felt forced and misplaced. Morgan Freeman did an excellent job as Drosselmeyer, and James Newton Howard's score truly accented some of the best moments from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet. In many other respects, however, the story felt more like The Chronicles of Narnia than The Nutcracker, and I would've loved even more of the typical ballet style that Misty Copeland brought to the table. All in all, the story of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms was lost in its own epic setting and didn't seem to feel relatable to its viewers. This movie was really dumb. They took the music from the nutcracker and copied a few ideas but mostly copied Narnia. If you like the real nutcracker you probably won't like this.
