The Penguin: The Complete First Season

Excellent first season of the Penguin. Even streaming in 4K on Max does not compare to the physical 4K release. Glad I waited to watch it on this 4K release for the best possible experience

Excellent 4K rendition of an excellent show. The Penguin is a fantastic follow up to the recent Batman movie. Worth your time!

The 4k discs look and sound great and there is a lot of bonus features. My only complaint is the quality of the menus which look very low resolution.

It still feels a little weird seeing a production of this caliber made for TV. It's definitely something warrants collecting, not just watching once and forgetting. So, it's great that Warner has not only released the series on standard BD, but also UHD BD, both genuinely collectible high-fidelity formats we can trust, as I stopped throwing away money on subscription services a long time ago and don't ever expect to go back. Unlike downloads, discs are an investment you and your family can depend on for generations. My only reservation is that it's not a UHD/BD dual-format release. But that's more understandable for a series than a movie, where Warner is the only studio that seems intent on shortchanging their fans, relative to almost every other disc producer around.

The show itself is very good, a nice change of pace from generic overblown superhero movies. If you liked the Batman movie this is a prequel to, you'll like this series too. Picture and sound are both great on this 4K set. The blurb on the back of the box definitely needed another pass through proofreaders- it's one big run-on sentence that seems like a seventh grader wrote it.

Wasn't sure what to think when this miniseries follow-up to Matt Reeves's The Batman was first announced. But what could've been just another needless tie-in turned out to be a darned good little crime tale, drawing influence from classics of the genre. Colin Farrell is once again great as the title character, but Cristin Milioti dominates the proceedings as the nutso Sofia Falcone. Very good transfer (much like the movie, the visuals here are often very dark), excellent audio.
