Worked great in my Sony dvd player. Quality of picture and sound is good. If you love the play, you'll love the movie.

Brilliant!

MLeeporter December 13, 2012

Spectacular! I watched it over 3x times in one week. In L.A., I was unable to see it performed in a live theatre, but I always imagined that "Phantom..." would be performed with an excellent cast and special effects. I was very impressed! (The 2004 film version lacked the energy of a full stage production.) As a teacher, I introduced my students to the theatrical world by using "Highlights from the Phantom..." music CD and this DVD for exploration. I'm amazed that it took 25 years to get the WHOLE show on DVD, but I'm grateful! Thank you!!

I've seen this play with my daughter several times...once with Michael Crawford, and it was awesome. This DVD did not disappoint, as it brought back so many memories. And seeing Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford at the end of the program was great. This is going to be one of her Christmas gifts so she can enjoy it as well.

Ah, the real thing in my own home - at last!

grant18 March 27, 2012

Having seen The Phantom on stage twice (once in NYC and once at the touring version in Syracuse, NY), I was very disappointed with the 2004 movie version, both at the cinema and on DVD. It just did not express the vibrancy and excitement of this, my far and away favorite of all musicals. At last, there is a DVD that shows the production as it was originally intended and it exceeded my highest expectations. Whether this is the best casting of Christine or Raoul or Erik or Carlotta can be debated but it cannot be debated that this performance is absolutely true to the extraordinary Hal Prince NYC staging. I know there are those who do not like The Phantom but for those who do, this DVD is an absolute MUST HAVE. What a sensational birthday present!

Extraordinary Phantom of the Opera Cast

Pompie March 12, 2012

Is this 25th anniversary theater production of The Phantom of the Opera (POTO) worth your money? Is it for those who have never seen POTO before, as well as for seasoned POTO fans who may have seen multiple live performances? Is it worth your time to watch it again and again, even just your favorite parts? Does it even come close to Las Vegas and New York POTO productions? Does the cast do justice to this time honored and hugely popular multi-billion dollar theater event? A resounding YES, YES, YES, YES, and YES!!!! Ramin Karimloo (The Phantom) and Sierra Boggess (Christine) have teamed together for POTO in Vegas, NY, and now in London for this 25th anniversary one-of-a-kind masterpiece that was beamed around the world using state-of-the-art theater technology. The camera angles make it seem you are on stage with them, up close and personal -- you have the very best seat in Royal Albert Hall. The sound quality of this musical will rock you; turn up the volume of your home theater system for a total blast. Sierra is a triumph. She will make you laugh. She will likely make you cry (I teared up and quietly sobbed several times, delivered by a sterling young actress who can evoke these feelings with her voice and emotional energy). I thought at one time that Sarah Brightman (the original Christine) was incomparable. I no longer feel that way after seeing and hearing Sierra perform. She is a beautiful Broadway actress and singer who will duly impress you with her magnificent acting and singing abilities. As an aside, do you remember The Little Mermaid? Sierra played the leading role as Ariel in this Broadway hit. With her hair dyed red and with similar body proportions, she is the spitting image of Ariel's cartoon character. And she is just as bright and bubbly. Ramin is, in my humble opinion, the best Phantom to hit the stage. The chemistry between Sierra and him make this show what it is. They are no strangers in this spectacular show, having played opposite each other in multiple POTO productions around the world. This DVD (or Blu-Ray) is the Phantom of the Opera tour de force. Loyal fans are raving about this production by Cameron Mackintosh. The cast is perfect, the music is perfect, the techniques of stage production & filming are perfect, the costumes are perfect. Sierra and Ramin will make you believe you are witnessing something magical and special, because you are! Folks, this is a once in a lifetime experience. This is not your normal run of the mill POTO production. Don't miss out. You'll be watching this show repeatedly over many years and enjoying every thrilling moment of it every time you see and hear it. This hauntingly creepy love triangle will grip your heart with an iron fist and won't let go. As Christine says more than once, "The Phantom of the Opera is here, inside my mind." Very highly recommended. Worth every penny.

There is nothing>>>nothing<<< like the music of Andrew LLoyd Weber. I have been a singer all my life and emotional music sends a message.

Took me back to better times

AtLeast4Characters August 14, 2020

I attended 13 performances of PTO in LA. Was still able to sing along with this DVD almost 2 decades after my last visit. Was disappointed by the lack of a falling chandelier. Enjoyed the behind-the-scenes and "making of" documentary very much.
