Gilbert and Sullivan at their best
Have always loved live theater, this DVD is as close as you can get. Great cast, beautifully preformed. Linda Rondstat was fantastic. Will definitely go back for an encore performance.

A Real Treasure to Add to Your Collection
Despite its age, this Gilbert and Sullivan musical has a brilliant cast and great music. You will enjoy the humor as well as the lyrics and tunes. Have a great family evening. It will put a smile on your face and make you forget the stress of the day.

Great Performance of a Classic Play
This is a DVD movie of a stage performance of the Pirates Of Penzance from 1983. In my opinion, Kevin Kline steals the show with his comical performance of the Pirate King character, maintaining the integrity of the character through song and dance. The DVD includes subtitles, which are very helpful for following the flow of the content in the musical numbers where the wording is hard to make out (usually because of the rapid pace of the songs), however there are numerous typeos the use of wrong words in the subtitles. It would have been nice to see a few more special features, interviews with some of the actors looking back on the performance or discussing aspects of production, but apart from the issues with the subtitles, it's a great value for this very witty and fun movie (and a movie that's safe for all ages... my 3 year old even loves it for the slapstick elements).

Defective Copy
This DVD had problems at the start with the sound, but once I got passed that, it was OK. I decided not to pursue returning it and waiting for another copy, because it would have been too much of a hassle.

Great Musical
If you like musicals, and enjoy a sense of the ridiculous, you will appreciate this film. Has a lot of clever verse and full of comedic moments.
