Convenient, thrifty and good tasting. Adds zip to the dish and lift to the pancakes. Adding vinegar to milk really does not produce the same results as buttermilk
The Saco Buttermilk Blend Powder is great to have on hand when you don't need to buy a large container of fresh buttermilk for a recipe. Some recipes call for just 1 cup of buttermilk so why buy a whole quart? Just remember to refrigerate the container after opening it!
i was pleasantly surprised by this, i use it to make buttermilk pancakes and biscuits. i hate buying buttermilk because its expensive and some always goes to waste, this is tbe answer to have it on hand for recipes. the vinegar trick does NOT work, but this is very close to using actual buttermilk. for those making something that isnt just an ingredient in a recipe, ie for ranch dressing, id suggest mixing it with milk instead to get the thickness/texture. this imparts the flavor of buttermilk but when you mix it with water its going to be thinner.
This was left out of my delivery, accident's happen. I advised Walmart and they credited my account immediately!!! Their customer service for online delivery service is outstanding! As for the product, I use buttermilk daily and I love this product! Walmart now has it for the best price! Just be sure you immediately refrigerate it after you open it!
For a single person, it's a waste for me to buy ready-to-pour milk and buttermilk. This is a perfect solution. I throw it in the freezer until I need some. It works well in baking and I don't really see a difference in the results over ready-to-pour %26 it IS much better than my homemade buttermilk. Once I open a canister of this, I always separate it into small amounts and vac-seal them. That way I can keep them in the freezer and use them to make 1 or 2 cups at a time. The powder lasts a long time once I vac seal the packs and store in the freezer.
It's surprising, I think, how frequently one sees "buttermilk pancakes" advertised, and yet when you try to make these fabled concoctions, you're largely restricted to pre-batched mixes. This powder lets you make yours from scratch, or in my case, from sourdough starter: instead of dumping, I squirrel away the lionshare of the discard and make pancakes out of it with this buttermilk powder, some good flour and a teensy pinch of sugar (for the yeast). Powder is better than fresh here because of its vastly extended shelf life and the ease with which it can be mixed in with the dry ingredients of a recipe. There are a lot of recipes out there calling for buttermilk, and you don't want them all tasting like pre-batched pancake mix. Great product.
This is a MUST. I've tried buying the half gallons of buttermilk when I need it for a recipe, but I only use a tiny bit and the rest goes bad in my fridge. This tub, I can use a small amount, then keep the powder in my fridge for future use and it doesn't go bad. I use this in making buttermilk pancakes and syrup and they always turn out delicious!
I occasionally bake with buttermilk. It was always a pain to have to buy fresh buttermilk for a recipe and then throw the rest away. This powder solved the problem. After opening the package, the powder slowly turns into a solid rock. But if I get a couple of uses out of it before it dries up, it still saves time and money.
have been using this brand for years and love it, the last two containers however were completely clumped hard rocks, the buttermilk powder a pain to mix into any recipe. It's almost as though it was stored improperly or the seal was an issue or possibly the storage. Something made the buttermilk become rock hard dry clumps
I cannot review it because I have not used the product as yet. I can imagine that it's similar to what's in boxed buttermilk pancake mix. I plan on using it to make 'buttermilk' pancakes, waffles and biscuits from scratch. ❤️. So for cooking it'll be great!
