The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Hardcover)

Wal-Mart books are high quality and reasonably priced.

This book has a dust jacket but more importantly to me is when you remove the jacket the hard cover is the same colorful illustration. This book has vibrant colors. Little people will learn to count to five, identity different fruit all while going threw a caterpillars life. I was disappointed that it didn't have a page with a chunk bitten out of it but perhaps that was another book I had heard of. My grandson will enjoy this book (gift) and my 8 year old granddaughter gives it a thumbs up and can't wait to read it to him.

As a school librarian for 20 years, I always loved sharing this book with our young students. It is also a great choice for toddlers. The colorful book shares the story of the cycle of caterpillar to butterfly in an amazing way. Holes in the pages show the caterpillar eating through foods, growing bigger and becoming a butterfly. Children learn in a subtle way about the days of the week and counting. I was privileged to see Eric Carle sharing his unique method of collage illustrations. This is one of the best books for children. It is timeless.

A caterpillar is little more than an eating machine, its sole purpose is to eat enough to acquire enough bulk so that it can survive the metamorphic process of forming a cocoon and turning into a butterfly. That purpose is captured well by describing it as very hungry and when satiated, begin the process of converting into a butterfly. The author uses a minimum amount of text, in most cases it is a short sentence per two-page spread. It is the images that make this book, they are extremely colorful, with detail that is obvious, but could easily be overlooked. For example, there are faces on the sun and the moon. The last spread showing the beautiful butterfly is a work of art. When this book is read to young children, their eyes will naturally move to the images where their attention will remain focused for some time. This would be a fun book to read to a child just learning about the power and wonder of books.

Classic book that I read as a young child. Bright colors, large font and an easy to follow story keeps kids attention. The story is about a caterpillar that eats different foods until it becomes a beautiful butterfly.

Another classic by Eric Carle, great for the little ones. This is a good quality, sturdy hardcover book.

This is a children's literature classic. It is the perfect size for classroom use and the value was terriffic.

This is my grandaughter's favorite book. She likes it read to her at least three times in a row.

Absolutely recommend this purchase. Excellent illustrations easy to follow and huge!

The paper title cover was ripped all the way up the spine. Good thing that can just come off, and the hard cover has the title and design on it, or it would've been returned.
