The Very Quiet Cricket (Hardcover)

It's a very sweet story to read to a young child, boy or girl, about a little cricket, trying to find his "voice". The pictures are so cute and at the end of the book, a surprise that will delight both the reader and the one being read to. Truly a treasure that will be a bonding experience for any reader and lucky child being read to. And when the child can read on his or her own, a story to be revisited time and again, I feel certain.

I didnt know that it made cricket noises when i ordered the book, but was an added bonus for the price. I got the book so my daughter could read along with her story dream machine projector.

This book is an Eric Carle classic I bought for my grandson who had watched the story on television and became a fan of crickets😁He loved the cricket sound at the end!

My 3 year old loves this book- especially the end of the book when you can hear the cricket chirps. We love all of Eric Carle's books. Highly recommend! Also- I suggest buying the little tykes story dream machine and get the Eric Carle bundles (I have 2 sets) my son loves to read along with his physical book.

Classic Eric Carle. My young nephew enjoys this book.

A wonderful read-aloud for kids of all ages. Junior High kids even liked it! The chirping at the end wins over even the kids who think they are too cool for children's books. Great book!

A cricket is born and explores the world around him. He encounters many different insects, all of which make some kind of species-specific noise. However, no matter how hard he tries, the cricket cannot make a sound. Frustration mounts as he instinctively knows that he should be able to do so. Finally, under the light of a full moon he encounters a female cricket and, in her opinion, makes the most beautiful cricket sound of all time. It is very helpful to read the short preamble before reading the main text. In that section, the reader learns that both genders of crickets can hear, but only the male can make a sound. This is a nice, very well illustrated story about a creature that we all hear chirping in the summer months. Had I known of it, I would have read this book to my daughter when she was young, and she would have loved it.

It's an Eric Carle book. Do you need to say anything more? I read his books to my children, and now to my grandchildren. These are beloved by children, mothers, and Grammy's everywhere

I was so pleased to get the book early and that it really works. I had seen so many reviews that said the cricket did not chirp but mine does. Thank you!!

My grandson liked the repetitive text and all the different insects in the book, but he was especially excited to hear the cricket sound at the end. I thought the insect illustrations were interesting in the colorful Eric Carle style, but I thought the cricket sound could have been louder. We had to hold the book near our ears to hear it.
