I bought a cheaper one before this. Don't do that. This is about as inexpensive as you want to go. Sturdy casing and it feels fairly strong at the joint. I like that it's rechargeable, even has a battery indicator. I have not yet used the wired probe for cooking but it checked out okay in ice.

My husband used it one time and was pleased

This is a nice product, typical of Thermopro. The only thing is, the manual seems to have no instructions on how to use the USB charger. I want to know if it's fully charged upon delivery, if there is a "low battery" indicator, and how long it takes to recharge. I've contacted Thermopro customer service with those questions, and expect to hear back from them soon.

will take a fall and keep working, vs the cheaper ones its water rated, nice... and its reads the temp spot on, as i check against more reliable thermometers the digits pretty easy to read vs. most... fast display of temp vs. most as well... recommended, 4.5 stars!

This thermometer is accurate and gives quick results. It flashes when the correct temperature is reached, but it doesn't make a sound. My husband swears he has been standing right next to it when the temperature has been reached without hearing anything. We haven't noticed any decline in his hearing, so I have to assume that while this thermometer does the job, it doesn't tell anyone about it. If an audible alarm is important to you, this might not be thermometer for you.
