Historically accurate depiction of events
Really good movie about the Doolittle raid over Tokyo in the early days of WWII. Spencer Tracy gets top billing in this movie but the truth is that he serves mostly in a repeat cameo role playing James Doolittle with the majority of the story focused on Major Ted Lawson who piloted one of the planes during the raid and wrote his account in which this movie is based off of, played by Van Johnson. Quality of the video is good for a movie of this age and also includes some material that would have been shown in the theater around the time this movie was released with a couple of shorts, one being a vintage cartoon, as well as a trailer for the movie if those things interest you. Movie includes subtitles, again if those things are important to you. The movie itself is a great story with most of it focusing on the training leading up to the mission and what took place after their bombing run. From what I gather this is one of the most accurate depictions of the raid to be dramatized on film and the some of the events that took place during the actual flight over Japan leaves you wide eyed from disbelief, but I won't ruin it for those who wishes to watch it. Great movie and worth being used to provide history lessons for that event or time period.

This is a great gift for someone who love movies like this, I got it for my husband and he loves it. He said that a great ole ww2 black and white movie.

30 Seconds Over Tokyo
Very good movie, especially considering the time it was made. Was not your typical war time feel good movie. Mostly about getting ready and doing the mission. The fact it is written by Ted Lawson lends greatly to the first person account of the story. He wasn't a larger than life hero, just one of our fathers and uncles doing their duty. This is what made them all a hero in my book.

This is a great WWII movie. Van Johnson is the best. Great flying scenes and great special effects for the time.
