A mighty little m.2 heatsink

Dave April 16, 2026

To start with what you get: A box of course with the heatsink inside. Below that is the thermal pads so don't forget to remove the heatsink and the packaging it sits in. There will be instructions there too. The instructions to my brain weren't great but not that bad. The way i installed the m.2 was the thicker pad on the bottom for protection and the thinner pad on top for the actual cooling. It works. Even under load it sits around 50c at most. I haven't seen it peak above that temperature yet. As for installing it on the motherboard you need to line up where the notch for the screw is on the m.2 and the notch in the metal backplate. In doing this you can finally screw in the heatsink to the metal back then install it while the motherboard is laid flat. That should make it way easier to screw it in tightly. However a secondary issue i had was getting the fan to work. So i had to chain it on an pwm fan hub you can get for cheap that plugs into your cpu fan header, in doing that and plugging in the cpu fan marked on the fan hub it worked and is now speed controlled with the cpu fan. All of this was done over a day and thorough testing that followed. With all of that i would suggest this for a max of a m.2 that is pcie 4x4 as a 5x5 one might get too hot for this little heatsink to cool effectively.
