Tomorrowland (DVD)

This is a pretty great movie. It is not all about George Clooney either (not a big fan). Very funny and sci-fi cool for a family movie.

Awesome movie with action and laughter plus a great cast.

Not bad but better if you are a Disney fan , like myself. The film itself is OK but the recreation of the 1950's worlds fair at the beginning is amazing.

I'll try not to give any spoilers here as I do think the movie is worth watching. I just don't think it's really worth owning. The general idea is there's a place called Tomorrowland that has advanced technology. The main character (as you can see from the trailers) picks up a pin which transports her to this location. From there the story begins with her desire to get to this place (That's all I'll say and you could have seen that from the trailer so it's not much). The movie gets the setting for Tomorrowland right -- it feels futuristic and really does inspire you. The problem is the movies pacing and its weak plot. The movie tends to just adjust the plot as it goes along to give it some reason to keep going. About to accomplish first goal? Here's a new goal. That's fine if it's a plot twist that redirects the energy of the film but there was no overarching direction to the film nor any build up in the plot prior to the twists. It was just action sequences strung together to fit a bunch of disjointed plot points into one string long enough to warrant a price of admission. The thing is this really isn't even that much of an action film as the sequences were all short when action was actually happening and despite a few cool effects I wasn't blown away by what was happening. Disney can do much better than this for sure. At the end of the movie I had no opinions about / relationship to the characters. I didn't care if they continued doing what they were doing or if they just stopped altogether. There just wasn't enough to the characters so they felt one-dimensional. I did like the way the actors fulfilled their roles but I just had no reason to feel anything about them. The main character was predictable as well in the story and I didn't feel like there was any growth for her between the beginning and end of the story in terms of personality, ambition, or anything else you usually get as the main character evolves to fit the experience. To sum it up: Felt like a cash grab so I'd suggest renting it instead. Just doesn't feel worth the price of the movie for something with so little going for it.
