When it comes to working in the shop, I am the softest and most delicate thing in it and only because of safety equipment do I walk out of there. Jack stands are useful for more than holding up cars and trucks but they are absolutely necessary if you're working on heavy stuff like a truck or tractor. This pair will hold a total of 6 tons which is probably more than enough for working on regular passenger vehicles, farm equipment, and other stuff your average home shop will ever see. I like these stands from Torin because they have a solid stand bar, the welds look pretty decent, and there are 2 locking mechanisms. The first is you have to lift up a long handle bar which forces the vertical bar upwards a bit. Meaning you can't accidentally bump into it with a workpiece on top and cause it to fall. Secondarily, there is a K-shaped safety bar you can insert to lock the entire setup in place. The chain to keep that safety bar attached to the stand is a good touch. Some of the paint flaked off in shipping but thats not a big deal because its a tool and will have more paint come off through use. I don't like however that the safety bar isn't positively held in place; you can easily push it out even when there is a load, but again the first safety lock doesn't feel like its moving regardless. A detent or some thick grease should hold it in place. Overall these are pretty nice units. A bit large for small passenger vehicles but tall enough for trucks with big wheels and tall axles. I'm also going to use it as a helping hand for holding up work pieces like a cabinet, propping up a mower deck and other items that are nowhere near 6 tons. They stack pretty easily so if I had 4 they wouldn't take up too much space in my garage. Not much bigger than its singular footprint.
Absolutely awesome! Tall enough to support my jeep with the added safety of a locking pin, I have many pairs of smaller stands and have never seen this feature before. Inside padding was a little thin which allowed the paint to scrape of both stands, doesn't effect the main purpose of the jack stands.
These jack stands are great... they could hold a Tank...I use them on my Truck, Lawn Mower...and Car...Built Very Well...a bit heavy to carry around...I would guess around 10 pounds each more or less...not sure about the height...I would guess around 2 to 21/2 feet lift...more or less...If you're looking for a good set of stands...get these!
These jack stands are great. They are well built and the wide base make them very sturdy. The ratcheting design locks into place securely and they have a secondary locking pin for added safety. When jacking up and placing these stands be sure to chock the front and back of the tires left on the ground. I didn't measure the height of these but they look to me to be high enough to remove or replace a transmission with plenty of room. Be sure that they are on a good solid platform because soft ground might cause them to sink and tip over. If you don't have a concrete or asphalt surface I would suggest a two foot square of thick plywood for a sturdy base. You can never be too careful when you have 6000 pounds over you.
The Torin Big Red 6 ton jack stands did its first job excellent. We had messed up the manual tongue jack on pop up camper. So we improvised with using a jack to lift up the camper and then placed the jack stands underneath it. This allowed us to be able to put on the electric tongue jack without having to worry about our other jack failing or being unsteady. It has a easy to use handle to allow for the height adjustment of the jack stands. Then is allowed by the ratchet bar that has a sawtooth design for the easy adjustment I mentioned with the handle. The saddle on the ratchet bar provides plenty of coverage so you have secure support for items that may be bigger. Then there is the extra safety of being able to put in the support pin (you can see it in the picture). The support pin is attached with a little chain to make it so you don't lose it, which I definitely would have without it.
These jack stands are tough! The double-locking safety mechanism is very appreciated to be doubly sure I can trust that they will remain in place when working under my vehicle.
First off, these things have some weight. Not a bad thing, since it's a quality thing. The actual bar that holds the vehicle up is really solid. It's thick and heavy. It has plenty of links on it so it can go pretty high. I really like the locking pins. Helps assure the stand will not fall. My only critique would be that I wish the stand would go up and down easier.
These jacks are very secure and durable. They are suitable for all types of cars and trucks with a weight tolerance of up to six tons. I suppose they could also be used for non-vehicle lift and hoist secure needs that someone might have as well. Versatile and secure product from Torin.
I don't have anything heavy enough to do a "test the limits", but these jack stands look like they could hold up anything. The single weld on the base was done carefully and looks as strong as the metal itself. The lift is very thick and looks indestructible. The locking pin adds an extra layer of safety, but there is no tension on it, so with vibration, I wonder if it could come out. If you buy a pair, I recommend that you pick them up in the store. Mine were shipped and when the box was delivered, it had nearly been destroyed in transit and was held together by tape that the shipping company probably put on in route. Some of the paint was damaged in transit too. Again, I cannot do a stress test on them, but I think they would definitely hold anything that runs on 4 wheels.
I recently purchased 2 sets Big Red 6ton jack stands however, the 2 sets were delivered in the original containers but appeared to be worn out and retapped. Initially I wasn't too concerned about it considering the stands are very heavy and may have damaged the boxes during the delivery process. As I opened the containers I noticed one set was missing a ratchet bar, ( the thick piece with the teeth along one side) I'm currently waiting for a response from the manufacturer to purchase a ratchet bar directly from them. I'm sure the jack stands are great and will perform as designed but purchasing something with missing parts is a dragggggg!!! Please do better Walmart
