Black looks better.
I wanted the black ball so that my entire hitch setup was black. I haven't put it to the ultimate test yet (I haven't hauled anything with it yet), but I'm sure, based on its rating, that it will do that jobs I need it to do.

Not a scuff/scratch proof finish but OK
It looks good, especially new, but it will scuff up with use just like the chrome ones. Just one tow of about 2 miles and the finish is scuffed off in a few places already. Time will tell how noticeable it becomes.

Black finish is apparently only sprayed on. Not baked on. The black coating scratched off the first time I hooked up my trailer to it.

The hitch was mislabeled indicating it was a 2" ball after i installed it and tried to attach my boat it was 2 5/8. A big waste of my time
