Pros: -The deco this mold was always suppose to have. This is a great repaint of the G2 Laser Optimus Prime mold from Legacy. -The deco is more based on the original Japanese release of RID2000 Black Convoy, featuring hot pink and the Rogue faction logo (upside down G2 Autobot logo) with an updated look (more focused on blacks over greys). -Solid build, more mold degradation and a surprisingly complex transformation. Cons: -If you're looking for the original Scourge deco from the US release of the RID2001 character, you will be disappointed. Lacking the gray overall color scheme, blood red windows and Decepticon faction logos, though all this can be fixed with Toyhax labels. -Lots of accessories that are completely pointless, the trailer and the axe are already in a drawer. All he needs is his sword. On a side not it is RID 2000 Scourge implying the 2000 release in Japan over the 2001 release in the US, hence the hot pink. I can see this mold getting at minimum 2 more rereleases, including Toxitron in green and 2001 Scourge in gray and and red. I'm happy with him as is.
Another Optimus Prime? This one is based on the greatest mode, earthrise optimus. From the hips down, it's the same. On top, it seems like it was designed by the same team and comes with his own matrix. The trailer is great, and I like the quality.
Great shipping, perfect condition
I'm not sure what the lore is of this character, but it's just a neat little evil lookin' Optimus. Not too shabby to transform. It's a little on the expensive side, but that's expected in this day and age of inflation.
I know a lot of people are gonna end up paying aftermarket prices, but I don't even think he's worth retail. first of all his colors are wrong, but even if we accept the colors for what they are he's not complex enough to be a leader. Compare him to the reveal the sheild deluxe that came out a while ago, and you'll see what I mean. He just isn't very innovative. His trailer offers little consolation in terms of value. it's almost completely empty. it doesn't even have the missile. his accessories are very lacking even for what they are. His sheild/axe is superfluous, and his sword is puny. he comes with a little gun from his trailer, but it doesn't compare to the gun the original had. if you're gonna get him you've gotta ask yourself if the character is worth the price. jot the mold. below is this figure repainted next to the original.
Great figure. Highly posable, transformation is intricate in places, simple in others. Looks great in both modes. Knocked 1 point because while the trailer is great in....trailer mode, the base mode is completely an afterthought, like most "base modes" on Optimus/Magnus/Rodimus designs these days. I wish we could get anything even close to the original Laser Optimus Prime playset with its giant air missiles, multiple spring missiles, and I think the thing could even shoot its wheels at you? Ah, good times in old toys. 10 out of 10 for collectors, 8 out of 10 for nostalgia.
If you like the Prime mold then you'll like Scourge here as they are identical. That's not a problem in itself as they are supposed to be. The repaint is decent and the color contrast is decent. It sets Scourge apart from the usual Nemesis Prime black and red. A lot of detail however gets lost in the sea of black. This is where Hasbro strikes out with repaints. They made the money off of the base figure to cover engineering, design, molds, ect. You see this same issue in the seekers non stop. The figure doesn't justify the price point. Look at the spoiler pack nemesis prime for example of things done right. They made him unique with extra attention that made him a must buy. Here you have a straight recolor with nothing new. The black wipes out the detail so a hit of drybrush and a different weapon would have done the job. They could have even added a few upgrades like DNA puts out. It has become more of a "ok good enough, DNA will finish it" mentality. When doing a repaint, just give us something to make it worth it. Run a few thousand generic swords and guns to just swap out, Toss in a few blast effects. I'm becoming more and more worried that they are going to price the line out of production. The 3rd party is doing a better job in many cases at a competitive if not better price. I want to support the brand, but would like the same effort.
I've had my eye on Scourge for a while. Solid build, good articulation and nice detail. Impressive design and I love that the oil trailer morphs into a battle station. All the weapons can be stored. My only qualm was the box was a bit damaged.
The figure is amazing and well worth the hype, considering it's at least a year or 2 old now. The price was reasonable, but it kept fluctuating up and down.
Purchased for my nephew who collects these. Not only were these released with extremely limited stock availability, when this was shipped out, the ... "individual" that packed it for shipping not only slashed the side of the Transformer box open, they bent and broke said box to get it to fit into the mailer. Worst part is, this isn't the first time I've had boxes broken by Walmart distribution/fulfillment center employees in order to fit them into the mailers. At least they didn't mail this one in a bag.....
