I received a free boat trailer... It was (still is) in rough shape, but I am bringing it back! Both wheels had the inner bearing completely wiped out. I don't have a picture of the hubs installed, but I have a picture of the spindles I started with... My trailer has straight 1" spindles, no taper. Plus it has slipper springs that are oddly long. My best guess is that this is a 1.250lb or 1,000lb rated axle? But it's old with no manufacturer info so I opted to try these hubs and they worked perfectly. I cleaned up the old spindles using rags and then brake cleaner, after that I sprayed them with penetrating oil to prevent rust from forming. As you see in the second photo, the race of the old bearing wouldn't come any further forward and I ended up having to cut it off with a grinder. If you have to do this, be careful so you don't want to damage the spindle. Once I had the race off I took sandpaper and cleaned up the spindle where it was preventing the old bearing from sliding off. If I didn't clean it up then the new bearing won't slide on. Greasing the bearings was easy, just make sure you start on the fat side and keep pushing the grease in until it comes out the top, you don't want any voids in the middle. When you are assembling the hubs it's just the opposite order of the ones you took off. Tighten down the castle nut until the hub will move but doesn't spin and then back it off a quarter turn and put in the cotter pin. If you read this entire description then I want you to know that if your install goes smoothly, it'll take just a little longer than it took you to read this... It's not a difficult process once you have the trailer up in the air and the wheels off. The new hubs look great and work perfectly. The bearings went in smoothly and turn freely. I trust them more than I trust the rest of the trailer! But I will be continuing my efforts to fix the rest of it, one piece at a time. Springs and axle U-bolts are next. The hubs are great in that the bolt pattern is the old universal 4 on 4. So if you have a low speed trailer you can use golf cart tires that are available everywhere for cheap used in great shape or if you have a road trailer then rims and tires are available at pretty much every Walmart Supercenter across the nation!
Heavy well built very good quality and American Made!
Everything fits well. The caps on the hub fit tightly and work well with grease fittings installed to constantly drive water out of the bearings after each launch of the boat. Pressed-in studs for the wheels are an improvement. Just an overall nice setup.
great product, great value.
Good product. Having never changed a hub, I could have used some instructions with it.
