I loved this series as a kid now to own the best transformers ever to be on television needless to say it's awesome the case had a snap broke off but it doesn't matter much to me because all the DVDs still function properly. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
It was a very well put together series
Transformers Armada starts whats considered the Unicron Trilogy of Transformers series. On it's own Aramada is a pretty good series for being a toy selling vehicle. From the start it's basically the Autobots and Decepticons fighting over control of the new Min-Con faction of robots. The Mini-cons while small in size can link up to the larger robots to unlock weapons and give them a power boost. Now the Autobots are led once again by Optimus Prime (voiced by Garry Chalk, voice of Optimus Primal in Beast Wars and Beast Machines) and the Decpticons are led by Megatron again (also returning from the Beast Wars/Machines, actor David Kaye). Both however are looking quite different than what fans of the 80's remember. The series kicks off with a group of teens stumbling into the Mini-cons spaceship underground and starting off the renewed battles to find the Mini-cons who have been scattered over the earth. Be of note the worse part of the series is these Teen characters. You will want to fast forward past the first few seconds of the first half of episodes beginnings just so you don't have to hear Rad (yes that's what they call the kid) say "Let me tell you about the Transformers". But they do set off some of the more interesting sub plots some of the time. Besides the Mini-con hunt we have Decepticons plotting for themselves, Starscream defecting for some time and actually making friends with one of the humans, and the best part of the second half, the return of the Transformer planet eater, Unicron. Unicrons involvement stretches 3 series in various ways, with this one showing him as the most active force behind things. As far as the animation goes, It's not bad. a lot of it looks hand drawn and it dips into CGI a few times over the course of the series. It alternates between using stock footage and normal footage for the robots transformations. Most likely every time Optimus uses one of his combining super modes you will get stock footage. There are some Voice acting goofs in earlier episodes as well. For the most part Armada was the best of the 3 connecting series. The animation was decent. The Story was somewhat understandable. And some of the characters really stood out. I'd recommend this to watch for any transformers fan and some casual fans. Now if only Transformers Energon had kept the momentum....
I am disappointed because the inside of the case is broken.
